Work Text:
Sometimes being the class president gets too much.
Today’s work is a quiz, general knowledge, and Aizawa sensei is taking his nap as the students discuss in their groups. Tenya has volunteered to do all the writing for his group, consisting of Midoriya, Todoroki, Uraraka, and Tsuyu. Today is a fine day, and Tenya keeps finding himself looking through the window at the weather outside. He might suggest to Midoriya in a bit that they should eat lunch outside today, it would really be a shame not to. Tenya really likes sunny days like this.
His friends are making great work of the quiz, too. They’re doing their very best, and Tenya believes in them. Whether or not they win the quiz doesn’t matter, all that matters is that they’re trying their best, and he’s sure all the other groups are doing their best too. Considering most of the questions are on heroes, Midoriya is their strong point for this particular round. He knows a lot about heroes.
It’s a generally peaceful session, and Tenya likes that.
However, the class gets rowdy quickly.
“Hey, Midoriya! Give us an answer!” Kaminari whispers to the green haired boy, who shakes his head. Tenya perks up instantly.
“It’s against the rules of the quiz to give other groups the answers! It spoils the fun of the quiz!” He scolds, and Kaminari lowers his head with a ‘sorry.’ Tenya thinks that’s the only issue that will come up in this session, but boy, is he wrong.
“HOW THE FUCK SHOULD WE KNOW THE ANSWER TO NUMBER SIX?!” Bakugou yells, loudly. Kirishima is trying to calm him down, saying ‘hey, we don’t need to answer all the questions’ but he’s being very loud. Tenya runs one hand over the folded part of his blazer and takes a deep breath.
“Can you shut your mouth for two seconds?” Shinsou replies, only pushing Bakugou on more. “Seriously, you’re being a real ass.” Bakugou slams his hands on the desk, and Tenya realises when he thought about the class being so quiet today, he may have jinxed it.
“Who are you calling an ass, you extra?!” The explosive student yells back. Shinsou just grins in response and makes another retort, Iida can’t really hear it, to which Bakugou yells again. Kirishima is trying his very best to keep Bakugou calm, but to little avail. The class is now yelling things left and right, and Tenya is struggling to keep track of it all. Everyone’s being so loud, someone just threw something, like a piece of paper or something, Tenya doesn’t know.
“Can we quieten down, please!” Tenya tries to talk above the noise, trying to be a good class president and get the class to listen to him, but it’s too loud. He can’t deal with it.
“SHUT UP, GLASSES!” Bakugou yells. Tenya sits back down, knowing he has no hope. People are yelling at eachother for looking at answers, Bakugou is still yelling about the comment Shinsou made, it’s absolute hell, this stinging, splitting feeling in his head. There’s nothing but noise and screaming and there’s another piece of paper being thrown-
“Tenya?” Todoroki’s voice cuts through a little, but Tenya’s head still burns.
“Iida? Are you okay, kero?”
“Iida, is something wrong?”
“No.” He’s shaking his head in his hands, close to tears. There’s too much...everything. Too much in his head. He wants it out. He needs to get the loud stuff out of his head. There’s too much of it, and it hurts it hurts it hurts...
“Tenya, focus on me. We’re going to go outside now, okay?” He quickly turns to Midoriya, who nods and heads to where Aizawa has just woken up as Todoroki essentially carries Tenya outside.
“No.” He repeats, rocking himself lightly against the wall.
“Hey.” Todoroki takes his hand, running it through his white and red hair. “It’s okay. It’s okay I know, it's too much, and it hurts. I know, it feels awful.” His hand on Tenya’s wrist is cool, just the right temperature, and his grip is not harsh. His hair is soft and good, and Tenya lets in little breaths as he tangles his fingers in it. Tenya can hear Todoroki properly now, his voice feels nice. “I’m here, Tenya.” The door opens again, Midoriya coming through with Aizawa’s scarf, giving it to Tenya. Tenya rubs the fabric between his fingers lightly, still rocking himself. Tensei and Aizawa were good friends when Tenya was younger, and whenever Tenya had a meltdown, Aizawa would let him stim with his scarf to calm down. Midoriya kisses his head lightly.
“It’s okay. It’s okay, Tenya. I promise.” Midoriya whispers. Todoroki lets his hand go, and Tenya curls up in Midoriya’s lap, stimming with his blazer lightly.
“Sorry.” He whispers.
“It’s not your fault.” Izuku smiles. “It happens to all of us. Today just got really bad. You help us through our meltdowns, so it’s only right for us to help you through yours.” Midoriya runs a hand through Tenya’s hair, curling and uncurling the blue strands. Aizawa comes into the hallway, sitting beside the three.
“Tenya, would you like to go to the infirmary for a bit? There’s some weighted blankets there, and Bakugou’s likely gonna blow another fuse as long as he does this quiz, but it’s important, so I can’t stop it. It’s best you don’t return to the class just yet before that.” Tenya nods, and Aizawa puts a hand on his shoulder. “I saw you trying to calm the class down. You did the best you could considering what was happening. I need to get back to class, so Midoriya and Todoroki will lead you to the infirmary. Would you like me to let Tensei know?” Tenya nods again. “Alright. I’ll make sure Bakugou and Shinsou apologise, too. Your teammates can let you know what you missed when you get back.” With that, he heads back into the loud classroom.
Midoriya and Todoroki sit on the infirmary bed beside Tenya as he curls up under the blanket, pulling it close. It’s good. It feels nice. He feels calm. Todoroki kisses his cheek lightly, holding his hand (cold, good, calm) and Midoriya holds his other hand, rubbing their fingers together lightly.

But the people he loves are here for him.
