Chapter 15: **Not A Real Chapter**

Summary:

Not a chapter but there is an ending, for those that want it.

Chapter Text

Hello friends, I wanted to apologize for never finishing the last chapter of this fic. It has been several years and I still get comments about it.

Truth is, my life went haywire when I was finishing this and I was unhappy with the last few chapters and unhappy with every version I had written for this.

Since then a lot has happened to me personally: I won gishwhes one year, fell in love with a girl in part because of our mutual love of spn, moved to small town Iowa to live with said girl, got diagnosed with a serious mental illness, got dumped by said girl, became hospitalized because of said mental illness, stepped away from fandom as a whole, slowly rebuilt my life and reimagined myself, got back into gish but not exactly into fandom again, got really into sports business, made a major career change, and so on.

I would love to get back into SPN one day and finish this properly, relocate the pages of research I had put in for the final reveal of just who this monster was and how he needed to be defeated because the mythology of the monster was truly my favorite part of all this and it is a shame that I have been unable to share what I had planned, I just don’t know when that day will come.

Until then I’d love to leave you with the unpolished image I had in my head for the final scene from the beginning of starting this journey:

Dean and Cas ride off, leaving behind a broken curse and a defeated deity, with the understanding that they’ve both finally come to terms with what they are to each other, and what that means. Some people died and some were saved, as is the nature of what they do. This one was harder on them than the others, but they didn’t have to shoulder those feelings in isolation anymore.

Cas turns on the radio as they start to breeze through the highway. On the radio is a cheerful song. It’s Love Shack by the B-52’s. Until then they had been riding in silence.

Dean started to sing along,

The love shack is a little old place where,

We can get together

Love shack baby

A love shack baby,

He gently grasped Cas’s hand, keeping the other on the wheel as they continued to drive with only the idea of home as their destination.

This was not a romantic song. It was a rather silly song. But it felt right.

Dean and Cas, driving away towards their own little love shack. 'Cause love rules at the love shack.
