quirks

Summary:

In which Tooru has low self esteem and Momo tries to reassure her.

[Prompt: Quirks]

Work Text:

Tooru loves many things about Momo. But one of the biggest things she loves is her girlfriend’s amazing Quirk. Momo can literally create anything out of her body as long as she knows its molecular makeup, making her an incredibly powerful Hero in training. And she’s so intelligent too, always top of the class in written exams and doing incredibly well in the practical exams and… well, she’s just amazing.

And sometimes, spending time with someone as amazing and beautiful and powerful as Momo can make her feel a bit… insecure. After all, Tooru is a bit forgettable, what with her rather useless Quirk that means people can’t see her, and she is an average student and scores in the bottom five in every exam they take and… she’s a bit of a nobody.

---

One day, Tooru watches Momo during one of All Might’s classes, studying her girlfriend as she creates a canon from her back and uses it to send Bakugou flying, leaving half the class applauding as Bakugou looks like he wants to kill her. Momo is so powerful. She’s amazing.

And when it is her go to battle a fellow student (Kouda), Tooru loses to him.

What is Momo doing dating someone as worthless as her?

---

Later that day, Tooru is curled up on her bed in her dorm room when there is a knock on her door.

“Can I come in?” Momo calls.

Sighing, Tooru gets out of bed and opens the door. She looks at her girlfriend and says, “Hi.”

“What’s the matter with you? You haven’t seemed right ever since All Might-sensei’s class.”

Tooru shrugs. “Uh, nothing. Sorry for being too quiet.”

“No, there’s something wrong,” Momo says.

“Fine. Come on in.”

Tooru sits on her bed and Momo sits beside her. She wears a bracelet on her wrist (Momo got it for her), so it is easy for Momo to locate her hand and hold it.

“Please tell me what’s wrong.”

And Tooru sighs, and she squeezes Momo’s hand as she tells her girlfriend something she has never told anyone before.

“I’ve got really low self esteem. And I sometimes feel so… worthless to see someone as amazing as you using your Quirk. Momo, why are you even dating me? You could go out with anyone in this school. Why did you choose me?”

Momo says nothing. Tooru looks at her girlfriend, and is amazed to see Momo frowning.

“What on Earth are you talking about?” Momo says, her voice very quiet. “Why would you even say that? Tooru, I fell in love with you; that’s why we’re dating. I know most students in this school have a crush on me, but… I wanted to go out with you. And don’t you dare call yourself worthless. You’re Quirk is unique and useful and even if it wasn’t, your Quirk doesn’t matter to me. I’d still love you if you were Quirkless. I love you because of who you are, not because of what your Quirk can do. So never talk like that, please.”

Finally stopping talking, Momo pulls her into a hug. Tooru rests her forehead against Momo’s chin, and her girlfriend presses a kiss to the top of her head.

“Thank you,” she whispers. “I love you.”
