Work Text:
Yoongi doesn't generally hate the fact that he and his boyfriends are night people.
Often times, he's over the moon about it. With his insomnia, irritational sleeping schedule and whatnot, most people he meets are either hobos out on the street, from the internet, or the occasional drunk neighbor staggering into the apartment complex late at night.
Suffice to say, Yoongi practically sprang at the chance when two willing and beautiful men came into his life looking for a third.
But there are times like now when Yoongi wishes that his boyfriends were more of day people instead.
Because it's tiring having to handle a not-so-tipsy Jimin hanging off his neck as he pushes their grocery cart in the only grocery store open every twenty-four hours near their place. Jimin keeps laughing and trying to kiss Yoongi's throat until Hoseok distracts him by pulling on the bottom of his sweater.
Yoongi knows for a fact that Jimin hasn't been drinking though, so he's probably just loopy from lack of sleep instead. Jimin has been awake for over thirty hours and nothing Hoseok and Yoongi say will get him to stay in bed and just rest. Jimin is an attentive nurse and he usually only takes on the night shifts at the hospital he works at, but they needed someone to cover for Namjoon's shift during the day and Jimin had volunteered like Yoongi knew his selfless boyfriend would.
He really wishes that Jimin had just stayed home and slept, but Yoongi knows that Jimin hates sleeping in the house by himself. He always ends up waking up from a nightmare and Yoongi doesn't want to subject his starlight to that. Plus Jimin always complains whenever they go grocery shopping without him because they always forget to get him some rice pudding.
(Hoseok whines that rice pudding is for old people anyway and then Yoongi has to be the one to apologize for Hoseok just so Jimin will help him make dinner while Hoseok cleans up. It's a mess.)
Still, it's tiring having to haul Jimin around and Hoseok is, of course, no help whatsoever.
Hoseok keeps fluttering about the aisle, muttering under his breath about the things he could do with certain objects and then follows that by throwing them into the cart. Yoongi sighs and Jimin leans over him, still laughing to himself as he takes the items out and hands them to Yoongi to put back on the shelves. Hoseok knows they're putting the items back, but he continues onward, hoping that they'll at least let him keep something.
Of course, there are a few certain things that Yoongi will let him keep but they can't very well buy everything. They definitely don't have enough money to indulge whatever strange cravings Hoseok has tonight after all. Jimin laughs again as he lifts a box of graham crackers out of the cart for Yoongi to take and Hoseok pouts as Yoongi puts it back.
When Jimin hands him a box of Reese's Puffs though, Yoongi drops it back into the shopping cart, smiling to himself as Hoseok whoops and Jimin pouts at him before shoving off after Hoseok. Hoseok lets Jimin hang off his neck graciously, cooing at him as he grabs more things and Yoongi is left alone to pick items out and put them back again.
Yoongi watches them as they wander through the aisles then, the cashier eyeing them warily. Most of them are used to their strange behavior but the boy at the cash register must be new since Yoongi has never seen him before. There's tinny music playing from the speakers above but Yoongi ignores it, too tired to try and amuse Hoseok by miming the words to the mediocre pop song playing. Jimin hums under his breath, still slung across Hoseok, but his movements are beginning to slow down, the manic look in his eyes slowly dying.
Jimin is about to hit the end of his loopy stage soon and descend into his zombie one, the one where he moves aimlessly and both Yoongi and Hoseok have to lug him around until they're able to drop him into bed at home. Yoongi hopes that Jimin can hold out a little longer, but Hoseok has got to notice the drop in Jimin's behavior because he's hobbling along faster now, dropping things into the cart a little frantically to try and end this grocery run sooner. Yoongi's left again to dig out the items they can't buy and puts them on random shelves, pushing the cart to follow behind his two waddling boyfriends.
"Hyung, couldn't you at least have left the Nutella in there? We're almost out because Jimin usually eats it when he's late for work. You should see the way he runs out the door with a piece of toast hanging out of his mouth," Hoseok whines in the canned goods aisle, laughing near the end as Jimin whines at him in return, mumbling something about not making fun of him when he's in a rush.
Yoongi rolls his eyes but grabs the jar of Nutella he'd just set aside and drops it back into the cart, grumbling under his breath as Hoseok whoops again, jumping a little before he remembers about the sleep-deprived Jimin clinging to him. Jimin nuzzles his face into Hoseok's throat, practically perched on his hip by this point and Hoseok huffs out a heavy breath, adjusting the youngest of their trio until he's giving him a piggyback ride. Jimin tightens his legs around Hoseok's middle and wraps his arms around Hoseok's neck, aware enough to not hold the elder in a choke hold but tight enough so he won't fall off Hoseok's back. Yoongi laughs at them under his breath, pulling up beside them until he's able to lean his shoulder against Jimin's side, effectively keeping the younger from tilting to the right and falling off that way as well.
Jimin gets comfortable where he is and Yoongi pats his head as Hoseok throws in more items, the cart near halfway full by this point. Yoongi is much less subtle with putting things back and Jimin giggles as Hoseok pouts, sticking his tongue out at Yoongi. Yoongi reaches out and grabs Hoseok's wrist the next time he reaches for an item, curving them away until they've rounded into the last and final aisle. Yoongi grabs a gallon of milk and leaves the carton of chocolate milk that Hoseok sneaks in because Hoseok's giving him puppy eyes as he reaches out for some rice pudding.
Yoongi sighs through his nose and allows it, grumbling under his breath as Jimin finally nods off, drool already beginning to dribble down onto his chin and the back of Hoseok's neck. Hoseok shivers and a pained smile flits across his features but Yoongi only sticks his tongue back out at his boyfriend, counting this as revenge for all the other times Yoongi has been left in charge of a sleep-deprived Jimin in public places. Hoseok smiles then as a new song begins to play from the grocery store's speakers and Yoongi is grateful for the distraction.
Jimin shivers on Hoseok's back, which doesn't go unnoticed by the elder and he shrugs off his jacket, draping it carefully across Jimin's shoulders. Hoseok keeps still as Yoongi does it, shifting Jimin once he's done to make sure his younger boyfriend is still comfortable atop his back. Yoongi knows that soon Hoseok will tire out from carrying Jimin, but he also knows that Hoseok will last until they get back to the car where he'll drop Jimin on the back seat and watch as he sprawls out before fixing Yoongi's jacket so it serves as a too-tiny blanket instead.
Right now though, they're still debating through different types of cheeses and Hoseok clicks his tongue as he reaches out for a tub of cottage cheese, pinning Yoongi with his puppy eyes again. Yoongi rolls his eyes and nods, smiling to himself when Hoseok whoops then immediately shushes himself as Jimin grumbles lowly, groggily attempting to figure out what or who is trying to drag him away from his much-prolonged sleep. Yoongi chuckles at them under his breath and keeps pushing the cart, more than glad when he sees the cash registers.
Yoongi is quick to load their groceries onto the belt, leaving Hoseok to start bagging a few of their items while Yoongi pays. The cashier Yoongi's now positive is new shoots him a sympathetic look when Jimin almost falls off Hoseok's back and Hoseok barely manages to catch him in time. Yoongi sighs aloud and nods in thanks to the boy, pulling the cart behind him as he bags the rest of their items, shooing Hoseok off towards the car.
"Are you sure, hyung?" Hoseok asks, already digging through his pants' pockets for his keys as he does.
"Yeah, go on ahead. I'm scared you'll drop Jimin soon," Yoongi murmurs back, getting the car keys out of Hoseok's back pocket when he still hasn't been able to find them.
Hoseok smiles at him and takes the keys, leaning forward briefly to brush his knuckles across Yoongi's jaw. Yoongi's face quickly flushes and Jimin snorts on Hoseok's back, not as asleep as they previously thought.
"Hyung is...cute when he...blushes," Jimin mumbles, eyes fluttering shut as sleep threatens to take over again and Yoongi rolls his eyes at the two, pushing at Hoseok's waist to make him get a move on.
Hoseok takes the hint and strolls out of the grocery store, humming a song under his breath as Jimin listens patiently, already nodding off again. Yoongi turns back to see that the cashier is smiling at them and upon noticing Yoongi's stare, flushes a dark red and pretends that he wasn't caught staring at them. Yoongi shakes his head and smiles to himself, still a little flushed himself from earlier and bags the rest of his groceries. Once he's gotten them all into the cart, he stops and digs out his change before turning back and approaching the card reader where the boy's tip jar is.
"Thanks," Yoongi squints at the boy's nametag as he drops the change into the jar. "Jeongguk. Thank you, Jeongguk."
Jeongguk nods, his eyes wide as Yoongi turns again and pushes his cart out. The automatic doors open quickly to let Yoongi out into the late night and the rumbling of the metal over the bumps in the parking lot are grating as always, but Yoongi's somehow gotten used to them after visiting this grocery store so many times before. The night is cold and Yoongi shivers as he remembers that Jimin has his jacket still but there are only a few cars in the parking lot anyway. The only car with their lights on is Hoseok's so he quickly navigates the cart towards it, stopping more than once to straighten out the wheels when they curve awkwardly to the side.
Hoseok hops out of the driver's seat when Yoongi is near enough and pops open the trunk, grabbing the heavy items out of their cart first. He places them in the trunk, his movements smooth and methodical and Yoongi smiles at him as he grabs the lighter items out of the way, enjoying how the crinkle of the bags seems to echo across the parking lot. Hoseok lifts the last of the heavier items into the trunk and begins to grab the lighter items he'd ignored before while he and Yoongi place them on top of the other things in the trunk.
When they're done, Yoongi starts to push the cart to leave it in it's designated area not too far away from them but Hoseok stops him, smiling at the elder as he motions towards the car. "I got it, hyung. You get in with Jiminnie and I'll be right back."
"Okay," Yoongi murmurs with a nod.
Hoseok's still smiling when Yoongi leans up to press a quick kiss to his heart-shaped lips, his heart beating loudly in his ears. Yoongi pulls away and climbs into the car, watching from the side view mirror as Hoseok pushes the cart. Jimin is snoring loudly on the back seat, the seatbelt for the middle seat secured snugly across his waist. Yoongi smiles at him, twisting in his own seat to stare at his youngest boyfriend instead once he can't catch a glimpse of Hoseok anymore.
Yoongi is still smiling at Jimin when Hoseok climbs into the car, quickly putting his seatbelt on and not daring to turn the car on until Yoongi has done so as well. Hoseok pulls out of the parking lot not soon after and Yoongi stares out the window, not bothering to turn the radio on because listening to Jimin snore as he finally gets some sleep is the best music to both their ears.
