Let me warm you

Chapter 8: Don't frown

Summary:

Eva plays a prank on you in the snow which you don't appreciate, but she makes it up to you

Chapter Text

"Ah, this reminds me of the old days, foraging through the snow, hunting in the winters, travelling through the storms!" Eva beamed proudly. Her wild spiky blonde hair flowing down her back, her smile so wide and bright, memories of the past pouring through her brain. How she missed the old days back when she was still a Viking, though she had matured greatly since then. Wrapped in fur pelts and drinking a beer, back in her youth as a nation. She loved how much you brought her passions to life, how you inspired her and how much you made her heart melt with love.

"Mmm, sounds exciting" you muttered in agreement, trying to hide your irritability. You were trying to sound enthusiastic but your patience was wearing thin, a bitter resentment towards the weather. It was so unbearably cold, feeling as though your whole body was returning to the ice age. You hated this and you wanted to return home as soon as humanly possible. Hiding in your cave of blankets and misery, hiding from the cold until warmer weather returned. But this weather was expected of the Nordics, it never bothered them, as to why Eva was running around utterly unfazed.

"Isn't the sky clear? It only happens when its so cold" she beamed, the twinkling stars, the deep blue sky, it was all so beautiful. She felt as though she could see Valhalla, reaching out to touch the heavens and watch the gods dance in the sky. Her blood pumping and her heart was screaming with utter joy, she couldn't fight the feeling of being so alive. You sighed, averting your gaze to admire the sky in silent curiosity, taking in the twinkling stars and planets above you. Older than you, older than existence, knowing some of them didn't even exist anymore. You had to admit it was pretty, beautiful and fascinating, losing track of time in all its wonder. But you were freezing cold, you couldn't feel your hands anymore, you were tired and you wanted to go home. You loved Eva so much but she wasn't good at listening to you, never understanding when enough was enough and you weren't in the mood. She had pestered you that she wanted to go for a walk in the snow, acting as thought it would melt before you even stepped outside. You'd been hesitant due to the thickness of the snow, how cold and unfriendly it looked. But she gave you the puppy dog eyes that were so hard to resist and dragged you outside before you could protest, giving in to her demands and hoping it would be worth it in the end.

Eva blinked at you curiously, wondering why you were so unresponsive, you seemed to be in a daze and you were bored out of your mind. You'd been quiet all day which was very unlike you, usually you were sweet, playful and cuddly, the complete opposite, reflective almost. As though something was weighing on your mind, embedded in your conscience and gnawing away at you. You'd been in a sulky mood and you were behaving so grumpy, what could be the matter? She grinned, knowing exactly how to cheer you up, this just had to make you smile. If stories about her Viking heritage didn't get your attention this surely would, taking a page out of America's book for once. Perhaps a prank would do the trick, snapping you out of your daze. "Oi, (Y/N)" she yelled loudly. You averted your gaze to acknowledge her, wondering what was the matter. You'd been so happy watching stars but she couldn't even let you enjoy that too? Suddenly you were met with a face full of snow, white slammed into your face freezing you and blinding your vision. You felt a rage pour through you like never before, now your face was not only cold but wet too. This just kept getting worse didn't it?

Eva doubled over laughing in amusement, gripping her stomach as she roared with laughter, you hadn't seen that coming and that was the best part. You had been so spaced out you fell right into her trap, surely this had to make you smile "The look on your face, I got you" she laughed. She should take a picture to remember this moment, rummaging in her pocket to locate her phone.

You growled impatiently, was she trying to pick a fight with you? Because it was working and you were done being patient with her, brushing the snow from your face angrily. You had never wanted to come out in the first place, now you weren't just cold but you were wet. You could be home, cuddled up in blankets and simply chilling, why had you ever listened to her in the first place? "Damn it Eva! What the fuck?!" you snapped fiercely, you were so sick of her pranks, why did she always have to be so childish?

Eva blinked in surprise, her laughter dying immediately, this wasn't the reaction she had expected, hell she hadn't seen you this mad in a while. She hadn't expected you to get so mad over a snowball, this was beyond an overreaction to being hit in the face "It was just a joke (Y/N) no need to be so pouty" she questioned.

"I can't stand the cold Eva! I can't cope, I feel like a bloody icicle, I only did this for you!" you huffed, you felt bitterly cold, you couldn't even feel your fingers. Your body was turning numb from the cold and you were miserable, Eva's pranks weren't helping either. You began to shiver, the freezing water dripping into your clothes. Eva stopped laughing, her expression full of worry, why hadn't you spoken up earlier if you were feeling this bad? She knew you were hesitant to go outside but she had brushed it off. Wishing she had paid more attention to your feelings, she straightened up to approach you, cupping your cheeks. Her eyes widened as she realised you were indeed telling the truth, your face was pink from the cold and your lips and hands were turning blue. You were shivering, you weren't lying when you said you were cold. She had no idea you were suffering so much, dragging you along through the snow while she had her fun. She now felt like an ass for throwing the snowball, making you feel even more miserable than before. She then gathered you in her arms before you could protest, there was to be no further arguing and right now you were a priority. Jokes could wait and you needed to get out of them snow, maybe she could find a sauna somewhere allowing you to warm right up, then she could feed you. She owed you an apology for being so selfish, she'd been a shitty girlfriend.

"W... what? Eva?" you panicked, what was she up to now? You hadn't meant to snap at her like this but this was an overreaction, you could still walk just fine. You worried she would pull another prank in hopes of making you smile again. You just wanted to go home damn it.

"You need to warm up Honig, you look pale as a Draugr, I won't let you get sick because of me" she argued, like hell she was going to let you suffer from the cold. If you got sick she would be to blame and even the other Nordics would be mad. She needed to take responsibility and help you feel better, after all going out in the snow was her idea in the first place. She started to head in the direction of the nearest Sauna, even if she had to kick down the door.

You blushed, feeling guilty for snapping at her, she was trying to amend for being an ass and playing a joke. You knew you were just being a moody git and venting onto her, but that didn't make it ok. How was she to know? You'd been ignoring her for most of the walk out of spite, yet she was trying to cheer you up. She was really worried about you "I umm.... Eva I can walk" you argued. The cold hadn't affected your limbs or ability to walk.

Eva huffed, gripping you tighter, she didn't want you burning off any more energy and getting colder. She would be able to preserve warmth this way by keeping you close to her too "Its faster this way" she argued. She'd be sure to cuddle you in the sauna too for extra warmth.

You blushed shyly, knowing better than to argue with Eva when she got protective "Ok..." you muttered shyly. Trying not to smile at how touched you were by her concern.
