Chapter Text

Sam pointed out tracks to Bowman and Jacob as Dean sniffed the area for decay.

You would think they worked together for years and created a system but let's not dwell on this for longer, Dean- no WolfHeart growled as a decaying smell rode the breeze.

Bowman watched WolfHeart's eyes as they became more alert and he sat himself on Jacob's shoulder, "I think we're close, WolfHeart is reacting."

Jacob scooped the Sprite into his hand, "Bowman, this is gonna get a little dangerous, remember these things are after you. So please just stay high enough from the ground."

Bowman scowled before realizing what was implied, the darned giants would be too distracted with the liche? Thing to help get him out of a bind. And WolfHeart wouldn't be able to take on to many enemies at once.

He would hate to think what it'll be like on the ground should the rotten things came, he really didn't want to think what would happen if he was on the ground as they fought.

WolfHeart circled, keeping his eyes on the forest and keeping his back to the giants. Proving to Bowman that these two are trustworthy for now, "Fine! Don't come running to me if you get bitten."

Sam sighed after reloading his and Jacob's guns, "If we get bitten, you won't be able to go home without leading the liche to Wellwood."

Bowman frowned as he flew upwards towards the higher branches, and felt a chill go down his spine as he perched above.

Sam was looking straight at him, though his eyes didn't have the "softness" from before...they were hard. His stance look like one of a killer, a hunter. The Sprite was suddenly glad that he wasn't his enemy, WolfHeart could probably take him...but he wasn't going to risk his guardian in such a way.

Jacob's stance was similar but slightly more lax, though his eyes betray that he's just as alert as Sam.

Of course WolfHeart looked every bit of hunter to Bowman, and all he can do was watch as they risked their lives. He'll just have to keep watch and warn the trio of hidden threats.

WolfHeart saw where Bowman went let himself ease into the hunter mindset, knowing he won't attack his human baby brothers. Cause, fuck it, he was claiming Jacob as his brother.

Sam sighed before sideeying Jacob, "Remember, if you hesitate, if you even freeze for a second...you can get someone killed. That's what my father put in my head after Dean's death, and I remember it every battle. Jacob if things start to look shady relocate the Sprites if you can. Preferably Bobby."

The kid nodded, a chill ran down Dean's spine. He should have known that his dad would fuck up his brother like this, the wolf had a brief thought on how his brother could have suffered without him.

A growl interrupted this train of thought and quickly enough Dean dodged an incoming attack, he snarled and went for the throat.

Jacob was facing his own dead wolf, shooting it in the legs causing it to slow down and giving him the chance to shot it in the head. Though when one was dispatched, two more took it's place, Dean tried hard to thin the herd.

Sam. Sam was another story.

His movement was fluid, he moved like a rushing water taking out many undead wolves. Though his harden eyes were on the approaching figure, drenched in death and dread.

Bowman flinched at the raw negative energy coming from the creature, his eyes scanned to WolfHeart and Jacob who both were fighting through what seemed like a unstopping army of undead.

Sam took a charge at the lich with his gun still at the ready, Bowman doesn't know how he missed the giant pulling out a flash of silver.

The lich slightly recoiled at the threat of a hunter, but didn't stop it's course.

Bowman watched in struck awe as Sam kept the creature at arm's length and the creature furiously grasping at the giant, if he hadn't he wouldn't have noticed something shiny near it's waist.

Bowman has a vague memory of Sam mentioning that liches can be killed by something of value, he'll have to get to it and finish this.

Once and for all

So without thinking, Bowman dived into the fray towards WolfHeart. The wolf dispatched another undead and curved his body towards the Sprite, "WolfHeart,. I'm going for the locket, can you get me closer?"

WolfHeart gave a positive growl as Bowman latched on his head, the undead wolves were trying to get to WolfHeart now. Proving the theory that the lich was after the Sprites.

This gave Jacob the opportunity to regain himself and immediately began thinning out the undead Wolf army which seemed to be finally ending.

WolfHeart took a running start to bite at the lich as Bowman made his way to what looked like a locket. The lich was thrown back, causing the sprite and the locket to fall onto the ground, something collosal landed mear inches away from him.

Sam's foot.

Just then Bowman froze as the foot lifted away from it's startling position, if Sam had stepped a little more to the right...

Bowman shivered at the intrusive thought, soon realizing that there was a rubbling in the ground. Getting more stronger with each stomp.

WolfHeart let out a growl before lunging at the lich once again, only to be thrown to the side, a resounding crack brought Bowman from his trance. The Sprite left the locket in favor of seeing his heart brother, leaving it directly in Sam’s path.

As he arrived to WolfHeart’s side,Sam stomped down in the spot he left the locket.

The lich screamed and withered, causing Sam to freeze and watch in confused shock. His eyes moved from his opponent towards WolfHeart, his eyes widened at the sight of Bowman.

He began to walk towards them when he felt something crunch underfoot.

Everything pieced together as Jacob joined Bowman to check on Dean.

Why? Why was he so desperate to believe this was his brother?

Sam shook the thought from his head as the wolf stood up, his paw bent in a way that no paw should be bent.

Bowman fussed and scolded the beast about being reckless, and the hunter finally sighed.

Jacob watched in growing realization what Sam was going to do while WolfHeart was distracted by Bowman, and winced in sympathy as a sharp crack interrupted the one-sided argument.

WolfHeart growled low but didn't attack as Sam used some of his bandages, “Now no chewing this off, I only set it back in place and it'll take time to heal.”

Bowman fluttered up to Jacob's shoulder, who in turn was smart enough not to say anything unless he wanted to get bopped.

When Sam finished, he straighten up and walked over to the remains. Making sure to salt the area before retrieving a shovel, tasking Jacob to watch over Bowman and De-WolfHeart.

Bowman felt drain in every sense of the way, his wings ached and he was still jittery from the adrenaline rush of avoiding being crushed.

Bowman was aware that night was upon them when a chill coursed through his body, causing him to snuggle into Jacob's neck.

WolfHeart's smirk was not missed by the Sprite, “Go pray to a rock!”

The wolf huffed without losing the smirk and went to assist in something with Sam. When did they get so chummy?

Well that probably means these giants earned his chosen brother's complete trust.

His eyes drooped, only widening at a weird smell. He saw that they were in a new location and Sam was pouring an oddly colored water over salted remains.

“Why does the water smell like that?” Bowman mumbled, Jacob and WolfHeart only hearing him.

“It's gasoline, it fuels our machines and burns things quickly. Don't worry, the forest won't burn down.” If that was supposed to reassure Bowman, it failed.

The fire was lit and the group watched the remains burn, by the time Sam put out the fire and ridded the ashes. The moon was high in the night sky.

WolfHeart borfed before leading the way back to the village, confused the humans followed.

Once Entering the Wellswood, they were struck awe at the glittering lights that illuminated the sleeping village. Unable to stand much longer, Jacob laid near the largest tree, using his bag as a pillow.

Bowman was already curled into his neck asleep before the giant laid his head down.

Sam looked towards WolfHeart as the beast laid at the entrance, “Thank you, um, can you even understand me?”

The wolf nodded.

“Are you magic?” Sam questioned.

The wolf shook his head.

“Are you human?” Another nod from the Wolf and Sam had to ask.

“Are...Are you Dean.” There was a pause before another nod. Though this time the wolf..no Dean nudged at his legs beckoning him to lay down.

Sam didn't fight nor complain as he laid down, eyes closing the moment his head touched his own bag.
