Chapter Text

Akashi Masaomi was the head of the Akashi’s family. It was an extremely rich family but also one of the most powerful and dangerous yakuza clan of Japan. The man has a unique son, Akashi Seijuro, a puppeteer in the shadows. Contrary to what most people thought, the young man was the one pulling all the strings. His plans were absolute, and everything in the clan had to go according to his will. Seijuro was the rightful heir to the throne and the boss of one of the three groups of the clan. Everyone acted under his supervision and all of his minions wore a dragon tattoo as a sign of their allegiance. His group oversaw every activity in the family and everyone without exception, reported to him.

The second group was under the supervision of Snake, a.k.a Kagami Taiga. In charge of the drug trafficking and money laundering. Taiga has no blood connection with the Akashi. He was an orphan collected by Masaomi the Samaritan when he was just a child and on the verge of death. However, many ignored that Kagami was in reality the nephew of his first wife Kakeru. When he was only two, his parents were brutally assassinated in front of him. Kakeru, who couldn’t have any child, then tried to officially adopt the redhead. But before she could do so, she was poisoned and Kagami was kidnapped.

On her grave, Masaomi promised to find Kagami at all cost and give him the place she had wanted for him. He had loved his late wife so much that his love for Kagami surpassed any other things, so much that rumors spread that they were both lovers.

Strangely, Seijuro had no hard feelings against Taiga, whom everyone accused of being a profiteer and a threat to his throne. Instead, both grew up together with Ivy as true brothers.

And after so many years of suffering and humiliation, Kagami finally joined a group that he could consider his own family. The weight they all had in his life and his heart was second to none. His family meant everything to him. Although the person behind his troubles was also a member of this family, he had dedicated his entire life and soul to his clan.

The culprit of all these torments the family has known was the leader of the third group. Big sister was the second wife of Masaomi, always suspected but never caught. No one ignored how jealous she had always been of Kakeru. No one ignored how badly she wanted to end Kagami's life, yet nothing could be done against her. She wanted the throne and suppressing all the potential heirs was her goal. Imayoshi was her right hand man and her cousin. Just as all the member of her clique, he could be identified with his cherry blossom tattoo.

On the night Nana was assaulted, he clearly saw the cherry blossom pattern on his attacker's shoulder. From this moment, Ivy was able to conclude that Imayoshi and his boss were the instigators of this attempted murder.

Aomine checked his phone for the umpteenth time that day, fidgeting angrily behind his desk. The morning had been rough and terribly long, minutes passing like hours. After being dumped yesterday without any consideration by the stupid redhead, he went straight home hoping he could find Momoi and vent on the situation (without giving her any detail). However, he was welcomed by an empty apartment. No matter where he looked out, he couldn’t find any trace of her passage. She simply vanished exactly like Kagami.

And to top it all, both of them were unreachable today too. Aomine stopped counting the number of missed calls and voice mails he left them. The situation made him unbearably moudy. Momoi sulking and ignoring him was a non-event that didn’t worry him too much at the moment. He was sure she would be back by the end of the day, like always.

What really bothered him was Kagami’s sudden silence. It bitterly reminded him of the last week when the redhead gave him the silent treatment. It was horrible. Aomine sighed and ran a hand on his face, exhausted. What exactly was his offence this time? Why was Kagami messing with his feeling?

Gosh” he exhaled, leaning backward. The situation made him crave anxiously for Kagami's attention, and it annoyed him to feel so miserable.

Mikki watched from afar with a bit of amusement as her pouty colleague glare at his phone, grumbling inaudibly and unholy words. For a reason, she was glad that for once something else except work could be on his mind. He was so stubborn about not socializing that sometimes she worried too much about him, exactly like Momoi. She chuckled when he sighed once again, earning a glare.

Remembering he was not alone in the office, he decided to go out for some fresh air and some privacy in his reverie. He would have walked to Maggi burger, but it would take too much time if he had to come back urgently. Therefore, he hopped in his car, eyes lingering a bit on the seat beside him. Maybe he should do the same and ignore him too. Phone call being his only way of connecting with him, it was preferable to give up for now and focus on something else. Or should he use their database to find his apartment? It would have been a good idea if he had more than a first name.

"Goddamnit" Aomine looked ahead of him. Two nights before, he had properly introduced himself to Kagami. However, in the euphoria of the moment he hadn’t asked about Kagami’s information because he had been certain that this step would have come naturally. And the redhead didn’t try to know more about him either.

Had Kagami even been interested to begin with?

He closed his burning eyes, biting his lips. He couldn’t remember the last time he had been so lovesick and frustrated, feeling lower than dirt.

After some long minute he blinked, trying to focus his gaze. Once his sight had cleared he noticed on his windshield a note left under his wiper. His long arm reached effortlessly for the piece of paper and Aomine inspected it with disinterest at first. The moment he read it, his eyes widened briefly and he straightened his back.

Looking for me? Find me at XXXX 251 XXXXXXX. Alone.

Aomine recognized it immediately. It was the same handwriting as in the notebook. And he received it the day after looking for Kise R. at the convenience store.

“News goes fast.” He muttered, starting the engine with a smirk.

Aomine knew it was probably a trap. The same handwriting meant that man had been leaving tips on purpose for the police and now he wanted a private meeting. And the fact that he knew exactly how to find Aomine was a more reason to stay cautious. However, he naively thought that he could handle it on his own.

“What do you mean we lost half of the merchandise?”

Clumsily managing himself in his wheelchair, Nana quickly turned towards a middle-aged man that was standing in the middle of the dark room. His expression was of pure fury as he advanced towards the man. Both the pain in his body and the embarrassment of the situation made him shout so loudly it startled his surroundings. The older man bowed lower and like him, two other men that were standing right behind him did the same.

“This is unacceptable” Nana threw at their feet the reports he was holding in his hand. He shouted again, suppressing the urge to stand up and beat their ass for such incompetence. “Explain yourself right now!”

“We… we were betrayed!” the man suddenly kneeled, trembling from head to toe. “The warehouse's location leaked… they attacked us in the night, killed everyone and stole everything they could fi...”

“Why didn't you stop them, you idiots?” Nana interrupted, pulling out his gun from his waistline. He was boiling with anger, ignoring the way it made him dizzy with all the medication he took this morning. “Who is the traitor? Tell me at least you know who it is... Tell me you fucking have a plan to get it back!”

The silence that followed made him roar, and after removing the security on his gun, he pointed it at them. “I heard nothin-”

“We have no excuse! We are sorry.” the man cried out, looking past Nana’s shoulder. Nana briefly glanced back too, gritting his teeth.

Observing the scene with a disturbing serenity, Kagami sat still and silent behind Nana. His countenance was impassible. He was slightly inclined to the side, an elbow on the arm of the chair and his chin on his fist. Nana saw his silence as permission to resume his interrogatory, but Ivy barged into the room before he could do so.

Quickly hiding his gun in his waistline, Nana froze as the raven hair man walked straight towards him.

“Kusakabe-san, please stand up.” The firmness in Ivy's tone of voice made him execute immediately despite Nana’s glare on him. He stopped beside Nana and without turning to them, keeping his eyes on the man in his wheelchair, he resumed. “As the head of our security I expect from you to find the culprit as soon as possible. I need result by tonight.” Acquiescing loudly in unison, the men bowed again and hurried outside, leaving the three men alone.

Nana averted his eyes under the intense scrutiny, avoiding eye contact with Ivy. “Hum…” he started but ended with a groan as Ivy hit him quickly on his head. “W-What was that for?” he cried out, following the man as he advanced towards Kagami now.

“Kusakabe-san is older than your dad. Never ever disrespect him again, you idiotic monkey.”

Nana complained about the insult but he was ignored as Ivy faced Kagami. “I am convinced that Imayoshi sent someone to attack you the night that idiot got hurt.” A thumb towards him as Ivy continued to talk made him protest again but in vain. “There's no sign of a break-in at the warehouse. And they knew exactly where to find the drug. No time wasted, no survivors, no casualities for them and for an unknown reason big sister called for a meeting tomorrow with everyone.”

"This is all her play!" Nana’s eyes widened as he pushed his chair closer to Ivy, looking up at him in panic. “What the hell are we gonna do?”

Kagami who was only but listening until now, finally sighed, straightening himself in his seat. He reached for a gold covered gun lying on his desk and stood slowly.

“We should get rid of them for good… before they do.” Ivy requested.

"Yes, let's kill them all!"

“I agree.” Kagami said calmly, surprising his two comrades who knew him as a pacifist despite his status. “You know what you have to do.” As he walked towards another door, exiting the room, Nana couldn’t help but question. “H-hey what are you going to do?”

The same question could be read in Ivy’s eyes as he noticed something was off about his brother. Kagami simply shrugged and opened the door. “Visiting a friend” No one had the time to ask him further questions because he closed the door immediately after him.

“You are not leaving him alone, are you?”

“Let him be for now.”

*

Once alone, Kagami leant on the nearest wall while clutching tightly at his chest. The mess he was in was phenomenal this time.

In a matter of seconds, everything turned out of control.

*

Kagami remained frozen in utter shock as Aomine’s gun and badge looked back at him from the glovebox. A cold sweat ran up his spine as he looked up at the back of the man who just fucked him to heaven a few moments ago.

His expression morphed into pure horror as he slowly reached for the badge. Praying all the deity he had never known could exist, heart pounding so savagely his chest started to hurt, he opened it only to throw it back immediately.

Kagami left the car without a second thought, walking in the opposite direction from Aomine’s. His steps felt heavy and his throat dry.

A police officer. Aomine Daiki, the man he had fallen for was a police officer. Aomine Daiki, the man he dared to let into his life was a police officer.

He opened himself to someone who could destroy them all in a matter of second. If Kagami was to fall, his clan would surely follow or at least a lot of them.

Dread and fear kept him awake the whole night. His mind was flooded with multiples questions and flash back. He had been mourning his feelings while wondering how much information Aomine had gathered about him till now.

The meeting with Nana and the other went on heatedly, but he didn’t care. He could never admit that he knew who that snitch was nor that it was probably his fault if the information leaked. He still didn't understand how it was possible, but he was confident that it was Aomine's fault.

The betrayal turned the pain into an immeasurable anger. Aomine ridiculed him and played with his feelings on top of putting his whole group in danger.

Therefore, he needed to deal with this problem as soon as possible. He already knew who was behind this whole plot.

Kagami crept onwards again, gripping tightly his gun.

Now he had to thwart their ploy and get rid of Aomine.
