Work Text:
"Make your own coffee in the morning."
That's what Kunikida kept telling him each morning. And every time Dazai would come into work, half asleep and rubbing up against his partner's shoulder until the latter gave in and went to grab a cup of coffee for him as well.
Every. Single. Morning.
And still, Kunikida thought, he wouldn't have it any other way.
The clock was ticking away and it was nearly six in the morning, which meant that his routine jog would end soon. Kunikida pulled the neck of his shirt up and wiped at his forehead, wondering if this time he'd find Dazai up and ready to start the day.
Long story short, he didn't.
"Oi, Dazai," Kunikida muttered, tapping his sleeping partner's shoulder. "Get up, we have to get ready for work."
"Five more minutes, Kunikida-kun...," Dazai mumbled, voice muffled from the pillow.
Alright then.
Kunikida thought that five minutes wouldn't be enough, and he did the maths in his head as he entered the bathroom and prepared to take a shower. Ten minutes to wash off. Ten more to prepare a quick breakfast. Twenty to reach the Agency. And twenty more to haul Dazai out of bed and drag him there in his underwear. Kunikida sighed.
Ten minutes passed. Dazai was still blissfully asleep when Kunikida stepped out of the shower and flung a towel at his head.
Twenty minutes. Kunikida finished his breakfast and washed the plate, then proceeded to go over to Dazai and pull the covers off of him. The brunette's body instantly curled up and a long string of complaints started pouring from his mouth, but Kunikida ignored them and pulled his partner up, forcing the sleep out of him.
"We'll be late if you keep fucking around, Dazai!" Kunikida scolded him, but simply got a pout in return.
A cute, sleepy pout. Damn.
"You're so meaaan, Kunikida-kun!" Dazai whined, wrapping his arms around Kunikida's waist and burying his head in the latter's abdomen. "And so warm..."
Kunikida sighed, exhasperated. But he didn't stop his hand from going to Dazai's head and moving through the strands of hair there.
"Come on, go take a shower and get ready," he said, trying to unwrap his partner's bandaged arms from around his waist. "There you go."
Dazai let himself be pulled off the bed and pushed in the direction of the bathroom. Kunikida couldn't help but smile and shake his head at his partner, watching him as he stumbled inside and closed the door behind himself.
"Good morning."
"Morning, Kunikida-san!" Atsushi sat up from his spot on the desk, hands planted firmly on the wooden surface. His purple-gold eyes moved to something behind the blonde and widened slightly. "Ah, Dazai-san. Good morning!"
Kunikida nodded to Yosano and Ranpo in greeting as he passed by their desks, then sat down at his own desk and opened the laptop, marking the start of his day. He looked down at his wrist watch. Perfect. Behind him the sound of dragging feet indicated his partner was slowly making his way to his own spot on the desk, albeit much slower than he thought was humanly possible.
Kunikida reached for his mug of coffee.
"Kunikida-kun~"
He sighed.
"I told you already," he said, trying to suppress his irritation. "Make your own coffee."
"But it's always sweeter when you make it for me, Kunikida," Dazai drawled out, leaning over to press his face against Kunikida's shoulder. "Please?"
Behind him he could hear Yosano's stifled chuckle.
"Fine, fine," he finally yielded and got up, walking out of the office.
"And it works?" Dazai's voice sounded from behind the closed door, making Kunikida stop in his tracks. "Just like that?"
"Of course!" Ranpo exclaimed, followed by Yosano's laugh.
"Maybe try it next time," she said, the hint of a smile in the way she spoke. "I'm sure he'll love it."
Kunikida pushed the door open, steaming mug of coffee in his hand. And yet the warmth that bloomed in his chest when he saw his partner's dark brown eyes turn to him and widen, suddenly filled with light at the sight of him walking through the door was more overwhelming than the hot porcelain in his hand.
"Come on, before I change my mind," he grumbled, but there was no malice behind those words.
Dazai smiled at him and followed him to their shared desk. Kunikida leaned against its edge and picked up his own mug of coffee, after which he handed the other one to his partner. Dazai took it without a word and tilted his head forward, already knowing what was coming next.
Kunikida cupped the back of Dazai's head and lazily ran his fingers through the soft locks of brown hair, the ghost of a smile tugging at his lips as he watched his partner's shoulders relax and his head lean even more into the touch.
"You two are adorable, you know that?" Yosano asked, chin rested on a gloved hand, a smile on her face.
Kunikida arched a brow at her, but his smile remained on his face. From where he was he could see Ranpo's hand resting on top of the one she had placed on the desk, and for a moment everything in the world felt right.
"'m gonna fall asleep like this, Kunikida-kun..," Dazai purred, leaning even further into his partner's touch.
Kunikida snorted.
"You wish," he shot back, leaning forward to press a light kiss on the brunette's forehead. "Come on, drink up. We have a long day ahead of us."
Dazai mumbled a complaint but did as he was told, albeit with a small pout on his lip the entire time. Kunikida didn't have to look at Atsushi to know that the boy was also trying not to laugh at this whole display of affection. Not in a mean way, of course.
Yeah, Kunikida thought. He would never have it any other way.
