Chapter Text

There they were again. Those god forsaken alphas were in his usual spot in the library, lounging around like they owned the damn place. Kuroko squinted at them from his spot behind a bookshelf, cursing his rotten luck. That was a really comfortable spot, nice and out of the way of glancing eyes. Not that he’d have been seen anyway. Huffing quietly, he resigned himself to simply glaring from his hidden spot, hoping they would eventually decide to move.

Aomine and Kise were certainly the most rowdy of the bunch, seemingly discontent with the idea of sitting down to read a book (typical) and resorting to tossing paper balls back and forth between them. Murasakibara was munching on what looked like strawberry pocky (is that even allowed in the library?) and watching the antics of the others. Midorima and Akashi were the only two who were using the library for its intended use, each reading a novel. Akashi would occasionally look up and speak to Aomine and Kise, probably admonishing them for being too loud. Their smell was nowhere near as strong as it had been the day before, probably due to them using scent blockers.

‘They’re a pretty interesting group…’ he chuckles to himself softly, looking on in mild amusement. ‘They’re all incredibly different, but they seem to mesh really well together. They’re good looks definitely help too…’

“Kuroko? What are you doing slinking around in the corner?”

Jolting slightly, Kuroko turned around. “Oh, hello Kagami-kun.”

Kagami Taiga was, in Kuroko’s opinion, the only tolerable alpha he has met so far in high school besides Kiyoshi. He was a bit on the denser side and a little hot-headed, sure, but he was also a great friend and an even better cook. He’s very thankful to have Kagami around most times, but he could certainly do without his judgy look right about now.

“Ya know,” Kagami said, looking over Kuroko’s head at the group of men seated at the library table, “they aren’t gonna just disappear, no matter how long you stare them down.” His grin widened. “You’d normally just walk away by now-you must be at least a little interested. What little scent you’re putting out definitely seems interested too.”

The look Kuroko shot at him was less than amused. “Don’t make me hit you, Kagami-kun. I don’t have the energy for it today.”

“You’re just mad cause I’m right. I bet it really pisses you off, getting all this unnecessary attention. Or maybe you like it a little too much?”

“This is your last warning, Kagami-kun.”

“This isn’t like you. You may avoid people, but you’re also honest about your feelings.” Kagami leaned over, wrapping an arm around the smaller boy’s shoulders. “If you really disliked them that much, you wouldn’t even look twice. You’d leave unnoticed. There’s gotta be something holding you back, so what is it? Huh?”

“Just remember, you made me do this, Kagami-kun.”

“Made you do wha-ACK!”

Kagami slumped over, wheezing and holding his stomach for dear life. “Did you have to hit me that hard, you little bastard?!”

“I distinctly remember warning you, Kagami-kun. Next time I won’t be so kind. Besides, you know how I feel about the topic of mating. I’m not gonna let anyone get in the way of achieving my goals, especially not some ragtag group of obnoxious alphas like that.” He slung his bag over his shoulder. “I’ll be leaving now. See you tomorrow.”

He walked out past the bookshelf, leaving a cursing Kagami in his dust. He passed the table with the Alphas at it, not sparing a second glance, though he could feel their eyes following him on his way out of the library door. A small jolt of adrenaline rushed through him, knowing that those eyes were following his every move. It both excited and terrified him. Goddamn alpha pheromones.

Kuroko quickened his pace, almost expecting them to follow. When nobody appeared at his back, he sighed out of relief and started off down the street towards his house, all the while wondering where he should sit to read from now on.

“Well, there he goes.” Kise sighed, leaning back in his chair dramatically. “I don’t see why we have to do this. I wanna talk to him now, waiting is so aggravating!”

Midorima swatted him with his now closed book. “For once, I seem to agree. What does antagonizing him by stealing his table really do? Surely there’s a better way to capture his attention.”

Akashi snapped his fingers, bringing the attention to himself. “I understand your concern, but there’s no need to worry. I want him to get used to our presence. We don’t want to scare him off before we really get a chance to interact with him.”

“So what the hell are we supposed to do?” Aomine huffed, crossing his arms. “He obviously wants nothing to do with us.”

Akashi’s eyes glinted and he smiled dangerously. “I’m not so sure that’s true. After all, he was watching us for quite a while.” He stood up casually. “The best time to act is soon. In fact, I think I’ll be making my move tomorrow.”

“Akashicchi, that’s not fair! I need to redeem myself from last time! I didn’t get to impress him before.”

“It’s your own fault for being slow Ryouta. Don’t worry, if all goes to plan, then we’ll all have our chance to win him over and court him properly. My plan is absolute, it has no chance of failure.”

Kagami watched the antics of the Generation of Miracles in amusement. The most popular group of alphas in the school, members of the student council and all children of extremely prominent families, were acting like lovesick schoolgirls over his best friend. Whatever Kagami had expected when hearing of these men from Kuroko, it was certainly not this. He chuckles quietly to himself, shaking his head.

“Well Kuroko, you’ve definitely caught their attention. Good luck getting rid of it, cause you’re gonna need it.”
