Summary
The crew’s party still rages overhead. Footsteps thud and cheers erupt when Ed drops heavily onto the bed, and then fireworks start. Ed jolts at the sound, or maybe it’s at the way Stede’s fingers trail the length of his as he pulls his hand away. The cabin, bathed in the soft glow of firelight, becomes a swirling, flashing kaleidoscope.

Summary
Stede goes very still for a moment, his next breath a touch heavier than the one before. “Captain’s orders?” he asks, taking a tiny step forward, back into Ed’s space.
“Yeah,” Ed breathes, and he backs against the desk as Stede takes another step, plants his hands on the wood and slides his hips up and back to sit. He lets his legs fall open, and the bell jangles, loud in the quiet cabin.

Summary
The next candidate comes sauntering into the cabin, her heavy, unhurried footsteps drawing Ed’s attention and holding it firmly. Her outfit’s all black, or near enough, so she already matches the vibe they’re trying to go for on the ship.
She also looks fucking hot.
She’s got a strong nose and a wide, toothy grin and a thick spill of jet-black hair and Ed wants, no, Ed needs to get fucked by her immediately.

Stede’s about to tease over how needy Ed is being tonight when a hand settles flat against his lower belly. A light press. A warning. “I think you should wait,” Ed murmurs. Right into his ear, silky smooth and dripping with want. “Until the movie’s over.”
Not neediness, then. No. A plan. Suddenly Stede sees all the cups of tea Ed brought him this afternoon in an entirely different light.

Summary
God, Ed was obsessed with that voice. Wanted to rub it all over himself, to drink it, to drown in it. To take it apart and see what it was made out of. He wondered if Izzy understood that when they sang together they were touching - voice to voice, from lungs to throat to air.
In the run-up to Calypso's party, things are tense on the Revenge. Stede is still learning how to be a captain, and a pirate. The crew don't trust him, and they certainly don't trust Ed Teach. The relationship between Izzy and Edward is strained by what they've been through, for all that Izzy and Stede are growing friendlier the more time they spend training. Ed's doing his best to make amends - to Izzy, to the ship, to everyone - and to sort his head out, but it's not easy. Meanwhile Stede and Ed are taking things slow, finding their way on shaky new ground.
While trying to work out how to fix all the things he's broken, Stede ends up asking about how Izzy and Ed met. Separately, the two of them tell him a story about pubs and pirates, about marriages and villains, shanties and sea battles, and of the Republic of Pirates itself. And for Stede, it changes everything.
