Because Neil always knows. He is as fluent in Andrew’s micro-expressions as he is in German and French. He knows which head tilts mean “go on” and which ones mean “shut up.” Without ever asking, he learned what it meant to see Andrew wearing double layers of long sleeves, or taking multiple showers in a day, and learned to hand Andrew the car keys.
That has always been the most terrifying thing about Neil — his patience to wait, watch, listen, learn. The prospect that if Neil were given enough time, there would be no part of Andrew that was just Andrew’s anymore.
“He has to know,” Andrew says.
“Does he?” Renee says. “Have you ever known Neil to assume that he is wanted?”
Five times Neil tells someone that he and Andrew aren’t dating, and one time Andrew uses his words to set the record straight.

Summary
Vincent Valentine has awoken from his sleep, aware of a feeling in his chest, and a whisper in his ear to find Sephiroth. He needs to make sure that Lucrecia's fears were baseless. Arriving in Midgar, and finding an old friend, he finds more waiting for him than just a checklist to push through before returning to sleep, to the quiet of Nibelheim.
He's not sure if Sephiroth is a monster, but he is a child. And that child deserved something more than a lab, a crazed scientist who would never be a father.
While he's there, his friend asks for one favor: Take the Ancients Away. He can do that. Even if Sephiroth might not want to leave, might feel some attachment to Shinra and his role as a Hero and SOLDIER, they most certainly have no such connection to the company. When he arrives at the lab to take the two away, it's a coin toss of who he'll need to be running with.
For Sephiroth, the man who walks into the lab for him is not a variable he's sure about, sure he can trust. But he knows Ifalna and Aerith, who he's passed for years within the halls of the lab, need to get away. And he won't stand in their way. Perhaps he never would have come along at all, if not for Vincent mentioning his mother.
