“So you don’t know anything about me?” Ed’s asking. He grips Stede’s hand on his bedside, careful of the injury to his middle.
“I’m sorry, really. I don’t. You said your name is Ed, is that right?”
Gut. Punch.
“Yeah. Yup.”
“Well, Ed. I’m sorry I don’t know you yet, but I’m looking forward to getting there.”
Stede smiles, just like he did years ago when they weren’t married. He smiles like he did when they were just figuring all this shit out.
“Me too.” Ed says, as he pretends not being able to lean in for a kiss is tolerable.
