Summary
Steve nodded, feigning understanding but he could tell something was up. He wasn’t the brightest when it came to school stuff, but Steve Harrington was good at reading other people—particularly teenagers who got into too much trouble. Call it a sixth sense at this point.
But Max was different. She came later than the rest of the kids, and she was a teenage girl, so shoot him for not feeling as confident in his intervention skills when it came to her.
“Dustin said the books were all about uh necro-mania or something. Black magic,” and Steve caught her skeptical gaze. “You working on some hardcore Halloween costume?” he chuckled but the redhead didn’t seem to think this particular line of questioning was funny.
“Sure Steve,” she scoffed. “It’s a project for Halloween,” Max nodded but Steve found it odd how she continued to avoid his gaze.

Summary
The first time Steve Harrington met Mr. William Hargrove it had been a winter day like any other. Nothing out of the ordinary, clouds rolled through the steel-colored sky and snow fell in clusters outside his storefront as the sun began to play hide and seek behind buildings on the city skyline. All Steve could recall when asked about that moment was the smell of cigarette smoke and a cologne that was distinctly clean and masculine. Oh, and something akin to the feeling of his restless soul that always seemed to be longing for something, finally settling itself deep in the hollow spaces of his bones. A kind of grounding. Something that he hadn’t felt in a long time. Maybe ever.
____________
Or, florist Steve Harrington meets William Hargrove, heir to his father’s illegal Chicago enterprise, and finds himself enraptured with a man bound by his violent fate. -

“You said you still dream of what happened, don’t you?” Robin’s voice was soft as she knocked the toes of her sneakers together. “About Billy at the mall. When he died.”
Steve pressed his lips together and nodded. He had confided in her once after coming into work with deep set circles under his eyes. He hadn’t slept in days it felt like, his mind constantly replaying what happened each time he closed his eyes.
Robin pushed herself off the counter and turned toward the stack of videos, picking up the scanner. “I’m just saying Steve, you said you didn’t really understand Billy. And you don’t know why you still dream of what happened. Maybe the answer is inside that box.”
____
Thanks to Max, Steve becomes the keeper of Billy Hargrove's things after he dies in Starcourt and learns more than he ever thought he would about his old rival. It doesn't take long for Steve to realize that maybe he was wrong about Billy, which begs the question: how should he feel now?Series

Summary
Steve noted the wariness in his lover’s voice as he stared through the smart looking lenses down at his own handwriting. He wanted to kiss his furrowed brow smooth, but he knew that Billy was sometimes uncomfortable with public displays, wondering especially in these meetings how it would make other potential parents view them.
“It just…” Billy’s voice was low as he looked up and scanned the room, all the seats nearly filled as the social worker who had been assigned to their group training came back and started walking around to distribute the packets. “It’s just becoming…real.”
“Hey,” Steve whispered, leaning in close. “We’ve got this. You’ve got me, and I’ve got you. And no matter what kid we have the incredible opportunity to get, they’ve got us. That’s all we need.”

Summary
So back in October 2022, my friend @imperfectabstraction, suggested we do a Harringrove-Mosstober challenge where we were supposed to write a story for each day. Here I am, months later sitting down and cranking away. We may or may not get 31 days of fics, as I clearly have no ability to write short one-shots, but please tune in as I update and flex my Harringrove muscles to make sure they don't get stiff! Comments and kudos always welcome <3

Summary
Four weeks after Starcourt, Steve buries his broken heart in a box alongside a pile of blurry Polaroids, love letters from a secret relationship and the keys to a wrecked, blue Camaro.
Four years after Starcourt, Steve's car breaks down in the middle of a lonely highway in California. The mechanic at the closest shop has blue eyes and blond hair… and a name tag that says Billy Hargrove.
*****
“Billy.” Steve whispered and the mechanic grinned, a little crooked and a whole lot bright, “That’s what the name tag says. Should I call you Mr. BMW-Driving Without a Spare or do you have a real name?”“I’m Steve.” He muttered numbly. “Steve Harrington.”
“Steve Harrington.” Billy winked at him, cocky and flirty and familiar enough to make Steve’s heart ache. “Nice to meet you, pretty boy.”
“Yeah.” A disbelieving sob caught somewhere in the back of Steve’s throat. “It’s-- it’s nice to meet you too.”

Summary
California, 1981. Circumstances and coincidence put Billy Hargrove and Steve Harrington on the same beach all summer long, and they spend the days falling in love, sharing kisses in the warm sand and hiding away together on moonlit shores.
Hawkins, 1983. On Halloween, Steve comes face to face with Billy again, except Billy isn’t the smooth talking, kiss stealing charmer Steve remembers. Now Billy is caustic, bitter and spoiling for a fight… and ready to unleash three years of anger and loneliness on the boy who broke his heart.
*
“We could run away.” Steve whispered. “Y’know like you used to say? Leave our shitty parents behind, run away and be pirates together. Remember?”“Newsflash Princess.” Neil had cracked Billy’s ribs during the last round of discipline. Billy struggled to hide how much every breath hurt. “I was fifteen when I said that. Stupid, naive and in lo—“
He swallowed, then finished miserably, “Running away was a dumb idea. Being pirates together. That doesn’t happen in real life. That’s fairy tale shit.”
“And boys like me.” His hands shook as he lit a cigarette. “Boys like me don’t get happily ever afters.”

Summary
They would just… watch each other. They didn’t need to say anything. Steve never felt like he was tripping over himself around Billy, never felt like he was fucking things up. Billy was this revered character in Hawkins now, beautiful and beloved by at least the entire high school. But he had chosen Steve, and that meant something.

Summary
Instead of getting there in October, Billy Hargrove rolls into town at the end of November; complete with a broken arm, a head full of stitches, and some newly-refreshed fear of his father. There he meets Steve Harrington: the preppy dreamboat who seems content with hating Billy's guts on sight and is determined to ignore him for the rest of the year. Billy's never been easily ignored, though, and Steve is about to really learn what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object.

Summary
Steve is so fucking nosy. Billy almost wants to hate him for trying to get in all the little crevasses of Billy’s mind that he has cluttered to the point not even himself has access to them anymore. But he’s so, so fucking beautiful, holding his lips against Susan’s mug as he drinks his sweet coffee and looks at Billy like he’s watching a caterpillar turning into a butterfly,
That Billy has no choice but to grab his own mug and drag Steve over to his messy room.
