Summary
Steve’s hand squeezes as he nods, a stray chestnut lock bouncing on his forehead. “Yeah! It’s like your book!” He points to himself, and then Eddie. “I’m Frog and you’re Toad.”
Eddie wipes his nose on his shirt, scrunching his brow. “Who says you’re Frog?”
“Me,” Steve answers with a giggle. Eddie crosses his arms over his chest, which is significantly lighter than a few minutes ago.
“What if I wanna be Frog?” He challenges.
Steve sticks out his tongue, and Eddie pounces.
Their cheeks shine with drying tears as they wrestle like dogs, the afternoon rain gradually slowing to a light sprinkle. Re-emerging sunlight catches on their teeth as they laugh and smile, the dark clouds of sorrow long forgotten. The boys eventually end up splayed out across the wooden floor, Steve the proclaimed victor.
“Friends forever?” Steve asks later, pinkie held in between them.
Eddie grins, locking their pinkies tightly.
“Forever and always.”

Strangely enough, they seem to… enjoy talking about Johnny. Kenshi supposes it makes sense— he was the previous owner of Sento, as he likes to consistently remind everyone. He fought with the blade before trading it for Kenshi’s after he was blinded.

“A t-shirt and briefs,” Kenshi answers automatically, before he realizes it’s more charged than it needs to be, and none of Johnny’s business. His brows slam together, and he shakes his head. It shouldn’t be that big a deal. Maybe it’s just something about knowing a man by the shape of his armor and gleam of his sword that makes pajamas feel so exposed, even across an ocean, unseen.
“No Star Wars Underoos?” Johnny’s voice finally breaks through, clear and resonant, and he chuckles.
