Summary
Nikolai Lantsov has several problems, and his upcoming political marriage is the least of them. He must behave at all times like a king - impossible. He must keep hidden the damage done by the Darkling's nichevo'ya. And he must definitely not tell the cold, efficient Zoya Nazyalensky, his general and bodyguard, that he has some rather unkingly feelings for her.
AU - A mix of book (King of Scars) and show, so Alina has destroyed the Fold, and returns to rule at Nikolai's side, as they agreed.
Nikolai is my favourite new character in season two of Netflix SAB; and chapter one of KoS already has me rooting for Zoya. So this short story just made sense.

Set after the end of Ep8 (TWS) and then veering off into an AU which I hope still stays true to the spirit of the books. Switches between Lucy and Kipps point of view.
Much kissing, much yearning, a bit of angst, jealousy but no love triangle... and a very dangerous ghost.

For starters, the stranger wore an outfit which could charitably be described as loud, and truthfully, as flash: an orange checkered jacket and waistcoat over a grey shirt, a loose mustard coloured cravat, and tight brown moleskin trousers with boots laced high. All this, and a leather greatcoat and a jaunty brown top hat.
Flash barely covered it, especially since Wylan, cradling a lonely pint of beer in a dim corner of the bar, could see a pair of pearl handled pistols nestled against the stranger's narrow hips."

Summary
There’s been a man. Augustin keeps seeing him at the edges of his vision, just around corners, sitting in the gloomy areas of rooms, blurring the background of mirrors.
He is tall, with a laughing sort of face, a wide stretch of a mouth, and brown hair that carefully curls over one side of his head. He never talks, but he meets Augustin’s eyes over the mess when Reg does something outrageous, gives him a grin. He rolls his eyes behind Stirling’s back at roll-call, and makes Augustin tuck a smile against his chin so no one can see.
He is always, always standing next to Paddy.
