“It hurts to watch you die.”
“Hurts.” Viktor repeats, voice airy. He was the wind yesterday. He heaves a deep sigh and brings his hand to Jayce’s, pries his fingers off the strings. “Do I die often?”
At that, Jayce laughs. Just once. Like death. Just once. What kind of question is that? Death, this permanent thing. Surely not. Never, not for Jayce. Jayce would not let it happen – nowhere. And that was true. In all timelines.
“In all possibilities, all the time. Everywhere.” They look up together at that and find their last moments together. They float like nothing matters. “In a billion different ways, Viktor. You die.”
