When Lucifer had agreed to help Constantine find out what the deepest desire of the new king of the Infinite Realms was, both him and Johnny had expected and been prepared for an array of different answers, ranging from the optimistically and rather unrealistic best case scenario of “I just desire to protect the realms from those that wish it harm” to the cataclysmic worst case scenario of the second coming of Pariah Dark with an answer along the lines of “I desire to destroy and conquer every single other universe, leaving nothing but rubble and death in my path.”
They had not expected for the king’s reply to be a depressingly earnest,
“I just want my parents to love me and accept me for what I am.”

Bruce feels the cold on his skin the moment he walks into the cavernous room. It settles over him like a fog, raises goosebumps under his suit. He sees Robin shiver slightly beside him, and then scowl at the display. Damian’s reactions usually bring a subtle smile to Bruce’s face, but this place seems to grab hold of any positive emotion and suck it out—or, at least, that’s what Bruce would say if he was being slightly less logical about it all. It’s not the place, it’s not even the obnoxious and persistent cold. It’s the small orb in the center of the room.
