Summary
Beau studies History and Politics at the Solstryce Academy's branch in Zadash and lives with her friends Fjord and Jester who are both from outside the Empire. She may be gay but the university's Queer Society has always been Jester's thing. Until they finally move back into the freshly renovated student society building and start off the summer semester with a grand party.
Yasha's only been living in the Empire for six years. A refugee from Xhorhas, studying Cultural Studies at the university in Zadash is her one chance at higher education. She's come to Zadash with her very best and very queer friend Mollymauk, who's been a part of the Queer Society ever since he's started studying. And now that they've moved back into their old meeting space, Molly's dragging Yasha along to their weekly meetings.
Beau and Yasha meet at Zadash University's Queer Society, while trying to figure out their orientations and relationships with the people surrounding them.

Her nerves are still slightly jittery, her hand shakes slightly as she flips the pancakes and she can't think too much about what happened because it reminds her too well of panic attacks, of nights tainted with insomnia, waking up after barely sleeping and feeling like someone chewed you up and spit you back out.

Orym snaps back awake, his jaw clenched so hard against a scream that it aches, tears streaming down his face. He rolls onto his back, staring up at the stars, turned honey colored by the amber light of the dome.
This feels too much like the endless months after Will and Derrig had died. The broken sleep. The nightmares. The panic upon waking, made worse by reaching out for someone who was no longer there, that would never be there again. Only time and the love and support of those around him had brought gradual, eventual relief. But they don’t have time. Everything is happening so fast.
“Please.” Orym doesn’t know who he’s directing his plea to. The gods? The spirits of those he has lost? The stars themselves? “Please, I just need to sleep.”
“Orym?” Dorian’s voice, barely a whisper. “Are you all right?”

Maybe visiting his old town is only an excuse Essek uses to see Caleb.
