“You doin’ okay, man?”
Steve sighs, slouching a bit. “As good as one can, I guess. According to Robin, my eye’s gonna disintegrate,” he jokes, and Eddie can only tell it’s a joke by the tint of a laugh that rolls out at the end.
“We’ll get you a new one, all glassy and shiny. No one will even know.” Eddie turns his head a little, rubbing his cheek back and forth against the fabric of Steve's jacket. “Or we can have everyone know. Make a spectacle of it. A real party trick. Get you one you can take out and toss around during beer pong.”

It's just Steve's luck that when Christmas rolls around, he needs eye surgery. With his parents and Robin out of town, Eddie volunteers to stick around for the recovery. Dustin doesn’t seem to notice Steve’s trouble breathing, just whines, “Just move your date this one time, come on.”
His inner alpha is back to panting. He likes the idea of moving the date that doesn’t actually exist, just quietly mumbles something along the lines of Eddie and alpha and mate into Steve’s ear. Steve pretends it’s tinnitus and a high pitched ring actually drowns out his inner alpha. Apparently, those concussions were good for something after all.
“What, to hang out with you and Eddie the freak Munson? Yeah, I’ll pass.”

The picture’s grainy and dark, but she can see Eddie Munson grinning, and the edge of someone else’s arm, and there, on the edge of the photo, is something else. It looks tall, like its body has been distorted, fingers stretched out to improbable points.
“That thing has Harrington?” Barb asks, leaning closer, trying to get a better look at it, but there’s not much to see. Where the face should be, there’s what looks like folds of skin, tightly sealed against each other.
“And maybe Eddie Munson.” Nancy says, and Barb looks back at the guy’s grinning face. She hasn’t been subjected to a tabletop rant all week.
“And Will,” Jonathan says.

He sometimes imagines how it would feel to be in Munson's orbit. Sometimes imagines where his words would be. Hopes they'd curl along Munson's cheek bone where Steve could brush his thumb so easily. Or in the junction between his neck and shoulder, a place where Steve could drop kisses. Or along the curve of his hip, where Steve's palm could settle.
None of it matters because Steve never says anything.

Waylaid by a surprise rut, Eddie is certain he won’t be able to get through the ren faire without making it tragically weird for everyone involved. Steve is convinced he can get him through it — what are his stupid pheromones for, after all? Everything will be fine. That is, if Steve can keep his own feelings in check.
