“Detective,” you almost whisper, reaching for his elbow. But you don’t touch, instead shadowing him like the predator you are. Strangely, the phasmid doesn’t pay attention to you. Your fibers are all danger. Flexed skeins of muscle and sharp eyes—at least at night.
It’s dusk now. Getting close.
The phasmid clacks its mandibles, face spinning once around its neck before it rights itself. Harry’s pupils are blown as he hesitates before it. Most officers would’ve tried to shoot this creature, yanked their pistols out to kill something foreign and unknowable. Harry simply whispers, “Hey….”
