“Captain,” said the ensign manning the communications console. “We’re being hailed.”
Ed’s eyes boggled. Izzy couldn’t fault him for the disbelief in his voice as he said, “By fucking who?”
The ensign tremulously responded, “The Starship Revenge, sir.”
Ed’s spine went from a relaxed, exhausted parabola to a straight line so quickly that it had to have hurt. He snapped, “Open a frequency.”
The ensign did so immediately. As soon as he did, the room was filled with static, the unmistakable sound of phaser fire, and a terrified voice shrieking.
“Help! “I think coming here was a mistake. We should go back.”
He hasn’t even stood before pain is ricochetting through Stede’s system, doubling him over as his vision briefly whites out. In the back of his mind, Stede is vaguely aware of Izzy to his side in a similar position, and it’s only when Ed is in front of them, cupping their faces with concern tucked into every inch of his frown, does the burning sensation ease.
Instead of pain, heat floods Stede’s system instead. It pools in his chest, his head, rushes down his thighs and settles into his cock. Stede’s half-hard, disorientated, and can’t even find it within himself to care why this is happening. It just feels good, Ed’s skin on his, a balm to the overwhelming warmth.
“Ed, I don’t -” Stede gasps through gritted teeth, already pulling at the buttons of his teal shirt for a bit of relief.
It’s only when Ed falls forward, head resting on Stede’s shoulders as he pants through the pain, does Stede realise how royally fucked they are, because whatever this is is effecting Ed too.
