“What’re you saying, Handler?”
“What I’m saying is, I need a favor from you. I need you to protect this girl while we put an end to this.”
“I’m retired—by your orders, Handler—I don’t do missions anymore.”
“I know, but you’re still the best agent we ever had. You’re the only one I trust to keep her safe.”
“I’m an unemployed bachelor living alone out in the middle of nowhere. That’s hardly a good environment for a kid.”
“It won’t be that long, just a few months at most. You don’t need to raise her, for crying out loud, just make sure she stays alive and well. We’ll compensate you and everything,” the Handler says.
“What if I say no?”
A futile question.
“Ultimately, I can’t force you to do anything anymore,” she says, “But the poor kid has been through so much. I’m asking you as a friend to protect this little girl.”
She sucks in a breath and holds it, as if debating to say what’s on her mind.
“You fought so children could have a safe world to grow up in, right?” Her voice is gentle and sincere. “Please, Twilight, she needs that world more than ever.”

Summary
Look how soft you’ve become, Agent Twilight.
Twilight suddenly pulls back; that wretched voice dragging him back to the shackles of his dismal reality. The reality that this woman wasn’t supposed to be anything more than a pawn to him. Stop denying the inevitable. She’s keeping a secret, and you know it.
Hurt immediately floods Yor’s starlit eyes. “Why did you stop?” she whispers, plump lips slightly swollen. “Did I…did I do something wrong?”
She doesn’t deserve this. Doesn’t deserve to be touched with his filthy hands, to be kissed by a liar’s tongue. But she sighs underneath his renewed desperation, her voice calling out a name he’s grown to resent. The raised scars on her thighs scrape against his palms.
Damn it all.

Summary
“I’ve missed you.” Loid murmurs, his voice low, and rumbles against Yor with how close they are.
Yor hums, hugging him a little tighter with her fingers digging into the fabric of his shirt, and she lets her head hit snugly against the bend of his neck and shoulder. “I’ve missed you more.”
And hearing that does astronomical things to his heart.
Or: Loid comes home late after a relatively long mission. He just misses his wife and wants to hold and kiss her again.
