Summary
Shifting his weight from one foot to another, he hesitated for a moment before sighing and stepping into the stall, lowering himself down to sit beside her in the hay.
“Go on. Listen to your crappy Beatles song. I’ll stand watch.”
Lyla blinked at him, and then her lips split into a smile “Really?”
“Sure. No use gettin’ yourself killed over that crap. If that’s how you’re gonna go out, it best be for some Guns n’ Roses - or Motley Crue, at the very least.”

Summary
“Gifted in metaphor as well as your craft.”
“Gifted?” she echoed with a smile that squandered any chance she had at appearing composed and unaffected. “I’m afraid you’re flattering me.”
“On the contrary, I do not give undue compliments. You may ask any of my men.”“To do that, I would have to know your name, Marchwarden.”
Of course, she already knew it. But no official introductions had been made, and addressing him by name before that felt far more forward than she was yet ready to be. How long had they traded glances across this very market? A while, even by the standards of their people. To spoil their first conversation - to have it be their only conversation - after taking so long to get here would not do.
He smiled a little.
“I am Haldir,” he bowed his head in greeting.

Summary
Mary Bennet agrees to spend the London season with the newly married Darcys. She discovers that she would still infinitely prefer a book. But hiding in the library at balls and parties is not the solution, as an odd young man keeps turning up there.
“'Miss Bennet', she says. I did not know my Conscience would have such an ordinary name.”
“I am not your conscience, sir,” Mary said, feeling made fun of and annoyed to be shaken out of her reverie for nonsense. “And whimsicality such as this, whilst charming in a child, is not so appealing in a grown man.”
“Wait,” he said. “Do wait. I am so used to speaking in that silly way with silly young women that I quite forgot myself. Please stay and talk a little more.”
(from the prompt "Mary's season in London. Her moralising is a trial to her sisters but in the end she outshines them all.")

Summary
When in search for a tragic hero, no one would have thought to look twice at Henry Tilney. His life may have begun promising, being born under the roof of a former abbey as the second son of a very stern military man, but from this point on both Henry’s situation in life and his disposition were entirely against him…
[A full rewrite of Jane Austen's “Northanger Abbey”, this time told from the perspective of Henry Tilney. Since the original is named for the Tilney’s home, I thought this reimagining should be named for the Morland’s.
Written to be canon compliant, historically accurate and in the style of the original work.]- Language:
