Summary
Tommy has always been able to see ghosts.
Usually, they stick around for a few days or weeks, maybe several months before they get what they need to move on. There was one ghost, however, who appeared when Tommy was young and seemed to be unable to get the closure he needed to let go and so he just… never left.
He got used to it, after a while, and Daniel became a consistent companion throughout his life.

Summary
It wouldn’t really be a stretch to say that, growing up, some of the only times he’d ever actually felt even acknowledged by his parents was while he was hurt, and, he knew it was probably ridiculously unhealthy for him to still crave their comfort, or anyone’s comfort really, whenever he landed up in hospital. It was like Pavlov's dog - he’d end up in a hospital, smell the very distinctive hospital smell, and immediately would feel like the only thing that could ever make him feel better as a hug. Attention. Someone caring for him.
After Buck returns to the Fire House once the law suit is dropped, he gets into an accident before things get resolved with the fire fam. Things take a turn for the worse at the hospital.

Summary
The kid with blood pouring down his shins is not so far from the dog lonely enough that he thinks breaking his housetraining is worth it for the ten minutes of berating that come with it, the ten minutes of undivided, if reluctant, attention.
Buck thinks, sometimes, that at least he wasn’t the kind of puppy that gets put in a sack and drowned at birth. He wasn’t always unwanted. And he isn’t anymore.
