She could comprehend the words, the name and the meaning. She understood that his name being on the roster meant he was the starting Beater for England’s national team, but for whatever reason, when her eyes ran over the black ink, her brain could not articulate any emotions or reaction.

He choked out a gasp, pressing a palm to his sternum like the words had hurt to verbalize. She wanted to copy the motion – to her own chest or his, she wasn’t sure – but the abject despair in his expression froze her.
“Oh, Draco—” she began, tone sympathetic, and he flinched.
“Don’t.” His jaw tightened. “I mean it, Granger. Leave it alone.”
