Ten years ago, Ghost desided to leave Simon Riley in his grave in the Mexican desert. Without Simon, Roba wouldn't come for Simon's family or the love of Simon's life. And he hoped his love would move on. He himself never did. He didn't realize how stupid he was until their paths crossed again. He still loved his Johnny with all his heart. Simon Riley's dead heart had started beating again. Now, Ghost had to figure out how to bury Simon deeper-or if keeping him alive was possible, after all.

Summary
In August of 1978, recently graduated bioengineering student John "Soap" MacTavish hops in his car to drive from University of California San Diego to Austin, Texas for a job interview. With the radio playing and a leg prosthetic in his back seat, he's cruising down I-8 until a strange, injured man walks out of the desert and gets in his car. The man barely speaks, barely even looks Soap's way, and god does he need help.

Ghost tipped his glass up, relishing the deepening, disgruntled look on Soap’s face as he pushed his balaclava and took a sip of his drink. He was offering a glimpse of himself from afar knowing how much Johnny hungered for one. Like a piece of fresh meat stored behind glass displays, far away from the mouths of salivating strays; existing solely for torment.
He wasn’t sure why the obsession existed, but it served its purpose for the day.
Ghost pulled the mask down again.

Soap wants what Ghost wants, that's for sure, but there's something stopping him from admitting it outright — work, rank and the fragile line of friendship between them. Ghost isn't willing to let him sit on his heels when he clearly wants more. All in a day's work, of course.

His hands itched to grab at Soap, itched to pull him in, he wanted to bury his face in the crook of Soap’s neck and breathe in all the deep, sleep-warm scents of him, wanted to throw him up against the wall, wanted to rip him apart from the inside out, find a place in his body and make a home there, break him into a million pieces and patch him back together using himself as the glue.

And when the absurd logic of that fantasy supersedes even his rut-sick brain, his mind switches gears, and Soap keens a little through his teeth thinking about Ghost knotting him. About being wanted by his lieutenant, about being useful beyond his role in the SAS. About following orders and falling into that comfortable headspace.
Soap’s pretty sure alphas aren’t supposed to think like that. Soap’s pretty sure he’s right fucked in the head.
