Ace doesn’t even know if Luffy is aware what it means to be "boyfriends". To Luffy, it could mean the same as their relationship has always been, side by side as they hunt bears and tigers, eating several full course meals stolen from the high-end restaurants in the city, falling asleep in the same bed with their bloated bellies. To Ace, it means holding hands for the first time, kissing, marriage.
Ace underestimates what Luffy knows about dating.
