Powder yelled in frustration as she gripped her head once more, “We don’t want to be on a stupid stage! We don’t want all of this!” she shouted, running her hands over her face to wipe at the tears staining her cheeks, “Vik wanted to help people, he always did! I…” she croaked out, looking at her guardian as he watched her with a sadness and sympathy that she so desperately wanted to run into and cry to.

But the bridge was burning, and neither of them knew how to cross it anymore. The years of turmoil. The years of bonding. The days lost of Powder running to Jayce's side just to be picked up and carried around, the years lost of Jayce worrying over every bump and bruise she formed.

    Those days were gone now.

“I wanted parents.” she whispered out, her eyes hardening as she turned around and bolted. Away from this pain, away from this life.

“Powder-keg! Wait!” Jayce yelled after her, watching Powder lift her hand up just to flip him off.

“Fuck off!” she yelled back, her voice venomous as she left, “If you’re going to grovel, then find Vik!”

“I wasn’t a prisoner. I was able to leave. I think anyway, I never tried.”

    Vi frowns. “But– why?”

“Silco was nice to me,” Jinx says. Her eyes are fixed on the engine she’s dismantling. “He gave me a lot of things. And he was really kind, when I was dealing with some shit.”

“Some shit like him killing Vander, Mylo, Claggor– and me, you thought.”

It’s more blunt than Vi means it to be, but Jinx’s voice was too tender than it had any right to be when she talked about Silco. Jinx never sounds like that talking to her. It doesn’t seem right.

Jinx sets her tools down and turns to Vi with narrowed eyes. “It was my bomb,” she says.

“You were a kid, it wasn’t your fault. He was trying to kill us before you got there.”

Jinx clenches her fist experimentally, digging her shimmery blue nails into her palm before letting go. Guts and glitter cover her knuckles. It’s kind of pretty.

“Or did you forget?” Jinx asks between breaths. “Did that slip your mind? Had to, right? ‘Cause here you are, hugging me, telling me that I deserve so much. Oh, yeah, sis. Totally. Deserve the world. Someone give me a medal, because I’m a real piece of —”

Her words die on her lips as Vi cups her face, her eyes soft and narrow as her thumbs move across Jinx’s cheeks. Jinx lets out a giggle-hiccuping noise. And then she feels something hot streaming down both her cheeks.

Her heart stutters. When did she start crying?

Silent sobs wrack her lungs painfully, like metal pipes impaling flesh, like rocks cracking down her, and she deserves it. But for some reason, Vi’s shushing her, wiping her tears away, her blue eyes not leaving Jinx’s face, tracking the tears like the sky is breaking, and they’re the stars she needs to catch. The voices in Jinx’s head, the ones that are always there, haunting her since she was seven years old, shudder to a stop.

“I’ve got you,” Vi murmurs. “You’re okay. It wasn’t your fault, Powder. It was an accident. You’re okay. I’m here, I’ve got you.”

    Summary

Jinx was having a great day! She had just sneaked into one of Piltover's most secure buildings, stolen a bunch of fancy tech from the lab and gotten out, and no one had noticed! She hadn't had to kill anyone on her way through!

And she had also stolen a kid!

Silco was gonna love this little guy.

Edit as of the end of 2024: ...guys I won't lie I never outlined this bitch so I completely lost track of what it was supposed to be other than vague ideas. Consider this fic in hiatus until I rewrite it after watching season two. Which I won't watch until I finish all my school projects because I know myself. I will be obsessed with it. So yeah. Sorry to everyone waiting for an update... It ain't gonna happen soon.

“You want me to become his teacher.” Sky said. It didn’t sound like a question, despite the bewilderment in her voice. “This is a horrible idea.”

“Think about it.” Vi said, sitting back against the half rotted bench. “Silco loves, in all his deranged way of loving, his grandson. Surely, he’ll want someone to teach him.”

“You don’t have schools?” Caitlyn asked. Sky and Vi stared at her. She blushed. “Right, sorry, didn’t meant to–”

“We had one, back when I was younger.” Sky said. “It got destroyed by a bunch of enforcers the night of the bridge.”

“Yeah, good things never last down here.” Vi said. “So, you just gotta get hired by Silco, and I dunno, we’ll improvise from there.”

    Summary

Jinx ends up in the past for some reason and meets tiny Viktor and, as Jinx is prone to, latches on. Or alternatively, where Viktor stumbles upon a weird friendship/family bonding with perhaps not the best role model but good luck trying to tell him that.

She hops down the stairs all at once and Viktor grabs onto her with a squeak, automatically hiding his face on her shoulder. He doesn’t move from that position, though he opens his eyes to watch the said objects as they walk away, one hand clutched to the cotton of her top. He can smell the spray paints she used earlier to graffiti a swear word over a billboard, as well the little bit of burnt hair, spots of her long braids singed and coming loose – Jinx had been upset about it, then she forgot about it. She might get upset about it again later and that might be the reason she disappears for another week – but right now she is tapping a rhythm to his shoulder while singing a kid’s rhyme, ducking under a pipe, holding Viktor. Who is nine and a bit old to be carried like this, but she does it all the time now, too impatient to wait for him to follow in his usual pace and its—not fine, she picks him up without a say-so and takes him to where she wants to go. But she doesn’t turn and leave.

    She takes him with her.

(he realizes she hasn’t answered his question at all.

But Viktor decides that for now, he doesn’t mind.

    This is fine.)
