She knew it was over when she started noticing all that was missing around the ranch house. Bradley's small stack of books from the shelf in the living room was the first thing to disappear. Next her various creams and serums got packed away, even the little samples, the ones Laura knew she never used. It broke her when the leather sandals Bradley favored during their summer on the ranch were no longer sitting in the garage next to her own. DC in December isn't the best place for opened toed footwear. Her eyes had burned then, hot tears boiling over for a minute, two.
