“Sirius,” James said gently. “are you telling me that you deserve all of this?”
“Maybe.” He whispered back, and for a second he thought James didn’t even hear him.
But he did.
“Stop.” James said sternly. ‘Stop thinking like that. You don’t deserve what you’ve been through. You’ve had to suffer like no one should ever have to at such a young age. Your parents have never seen your worth. They never even saw you as a person, but an heir. They were wrong to do what they did and you know it. No one deserves what happened to you, Sirius. You’re no exception.’
James was right, he realised. No one deserves what he went through. “Is it wrong to hope in a hopeless situation?”
James squeezed his shoulder, and smiled. “It’s the best thing you could do.”
“Yeah.” Sirius agreed, smiling softly. “I guess it is.”
James beamed.

Sirius receives a letter from his mother at the start of fifth year, demanding him to find a pureblood girl to marry. Except he had just discovered his feelings for his best friend, and he definitely didn’t want to marry a pureblood girl. But it isn’t as though Remus liked him back, Right?
