Summary
The night of the gas leak, Ted and Rebecca DO end up sleeping together and it's even better than Rebecca thought it could be. But Ted still leaves and Rebecca gets her heart broken. The only issues is, Kansas isn't want he was expecting. After a disquieting conversation with Michelle, Ted has to figure out how to commit. As he learns to go after what he wants, Rebecca tries to heal her broken heart enough to figure out if there is any chance of moving on from her pain.

Ted gets back to Kansas only to realize he's made the biggest mistake of his life and left his home behind. When he decides to rush back in a dramatic moment he forgets one little thing. He doesn't have a work visa anymore. Thankfully there's a simple solution: marry a Brit. But, just to be safe, they decide to not tell anyone this isn't real. It'll be hard keeping the secret from their friends, but how hard will it be to pretend to be marrying for love? Surely there's nothing that could go wrong with Ted and Rebecca getting married? Surely they won't...actually fall in love.
I jokingly called this fic het mutual pining chicken so there's some good mutual pining angst but don't you worry, they'll figure it out in the end. Also I literally spent 30 seconds googling how visas work so like…hand wave if it’s wrong.
