"You’re acting like you’re not going to have to miss me,” Buck says, pressing the bruise. “Like I’ll be able to come over whenever I want, crash at your place when I get too tired, like you’re not leaving the timezone.”
“Yeah, well I’m trying to keep you in my life,” Eddie bites out, “and you’re acting like this is some kind of permanent goodbye.”
“This is goodbye, Eddie,” Buck retorts, his jaw tense. “You’re leaving.”

Summary
“Hi, hi, sorry, excuse me,” the guy says. “Weird question, but would you mind doing me a massive favor?”
Eddie squints at him. It’s not exactly well-lit in here, but he’s still about ninety percent sure that this guy was not with Emilio’s bachelor party when they came in. “Do I know you?”
“Um. No,” the guy says. He’s got wide blue eyes and a nervous smile and a salt-rimmed margarita glass clutched in one large hand. As Eddie watches, he glances over his shoulder, then hunches down like he’s trying to hide. Given the size of him, it’s more ridiculous than effective. “So this is going to sound completely nuts, and I promise I’ll explain, but can I throw this frozen margarita in your face and call you a jerk?”

Summary
He thinks about it, and then he doesn’t think about it because there’s no time to think about it. And he’s only half thinking about it when they’re in the locker room at the end of shift, and he asks if Buck wants to do something that evening. And Buck, honest to God, says to him, “Ah, uh, I have a date.”
It’s said with a head duck and a flutter of eyelashes, that thing Buck does a lot when he’s embarrassed or being coy that makes Eddie’s stomach swoop and plummet like a Tilt-A-Whirl. He sounds almost…sheepish.
But Eddie’s not crazy. Buck and Tommy broke up not even three weeks ago, seriously, unless it was a madness-induced hallucination and not something that actually happened in real life.
“Huh,” Eddie says. He doesn’t mean to say huh, but that’s what happens anyway.
Christopher has been in Texas for too long, and Buck gets back on the hamster wheel. Eddie considers some things.

Summary
There’s a joke in here somewhere, probably. If he could figure out how to word it right. Hey, so we’ve both been broken up for a while—those Army days, man, shit gets lonely—
So, a widower walks into a bar, and he hasn’t been held by someone he loves in years.
So, the last time I was close to you, really close to you, I was restarting your heart. Isn’t that funny? We can laugh, right? You can laugh. It’s funny.
Jesus Christ.
Eddie rolls over in his empty bed, mashes his face back into his pillow, and forces himself to fall asleep.
