Summary
Written for the Ace Attorney Holiday Exchange 2016
Prompt: Hijinks at Chief Prosecutor Edgeworth's office. With employees as eccentric as his, it is sometimes difficult for Edgeworth to handle, but he also wouldn't change it for anything. (Basically, I just want Edgeworth being a huge work dad to his prosecutor children who sometimes make his life harder than it needs to be.)

Summary
"Derek knows about his reputation among his employees; that they think he's a workaholic and that he hates people. The first one might be true, but it's hardly a character flaw that he likes his job. Editor in chief is a huge responsibility, and not one that Derek takes lightly. He gets the results he wants, even if they come at the expense of his staff liking him. Derek's philosophy is that they don't have to like him, they just have to respect him and get their jobs done."

Summary
“It’ll go fine.” Howie advised. “I don’t like the idea of you being there alone,” he joked with a small little smile. “But it’ll be okay.”
“I’m not alone.” Maddie teased with a matching smile of her own.
“You’re right.” Howie conceded. “You have our scary baby girl to hold everyone off.”
Maddie snorted. “I meant -.”
“I know what you meant.” Howie sobered. “I like the idea of him being there even less.”
Maddie’s stomach jolted. “Do you think I made a mistake?” She asked cautiously. “Should I have told him not to come?”
Howie waved a hand to the side. “Nah,” he shrugged. “We both know Buck’s going to Buck.”

Summary
It's the smoke that wakes him, seeping into his apartment not ten minutes after he finally knocks off.
He's off the couch in half a second, heart pounding with adrenaline, at the kitchen counter before he even realizes that the familiar smell in his nose is burning insulation.
There isn't any alarm going, no sprinklers on, no neighbors screaming or doors banging open, but Buck knows.
"9-1-1," says a vaguely familiar voice on the other end of the phone once he punches in the numbers. "What's your emergency?"

Summary
There aren't a lot of places Buck can sit comfortably with his thoughts, but here—out on the water, body weightless as long as he lies still, no sound but the lap of the waves and the breath thrumming in his chest—here there's nothing in the world to drag him down, no anger no worry and, most of all, no regrets to fill his lungs and suffocate him. Here on the water it's fine that he's alone.
He wonders if Maddie felt alone when she died.
or;
Five years after his sister is legally declared dead, Buck finds his way to Los Angeles and joins the 118, hoping he can make Maddie's memory proud.
And the universe smiles down on him.

Summary
He sits bolt upright in his seat. Jee-Yun squeals at the sudden movement. “Holy shit,” he says out loud, simultaneously praying that it doesn’t become one of those words his niece repeats until it loses its sparkle. “I told Eddie I loved him.”
Jee-Yun laughs. It feels a little like she’s mocking him. “Dee,” she agrees solemnly, placing a tiny hand on Buck’s cheek.
Or: Buck goes home to Pennsylvania. It's more familiar than he wants it to be.

Summary
“Hey,” Ravi says. “Scale of 1 to 10, how bad would it be if I assumed Eddie Diaz’s girlfriend was his wife in front of him?”
Lee groans. “Did you do it in front of Buckley?”
“Yeah?”
“A hundred,” she replies, turning the other direction before Ravi can demand to know why.
At three in the morning, it hits him. He bolts upright in his cot. Oh my god, he thinks. Buck and Eddie are divorced, and everyone forgot to tell me.
