Keith’s face is aflame. “Everything is… working.” He stalls. “It’s just. Difficult. I get really… frustrated, because I can get to a peak, but I feel like I can’t get over the hill.” His hands work their way into his hair. “I don’t know. This is stupid.”

It makes Shiro chuckle. It’s classic Keith, in his blunt and charming way. And Shiro takes inward delight in being the one Keith asks for help, albeit indirectly. Heat curls in the pit of his stomach unbidden, and he swipes out of their chat to linger briefly on his home screen.

In the aftermath of everything, Shiro and Keith still operate in each other’s orbits—Shiro as the Captain of the Atlas, Keith under him as a liaison with the Blades. Shiro struggles with increasingly possessive feelings toward Keith. It escalates from there.
