Summary
Just as something brushes against his leg, he throws himself forward and meets open air.
Time seems to slow. It’s a cliché, but it’s honest, and he’s trying to be honest with himself these days.
So honest that, as time slows and the wind rushing past him seems to slow as well, he admits that in a way, this is what he’s always wanted. To take control of his own fate, have a say in what becomes of him. To disappear, for good this time. Hopefully they won’t find his body. And what does it say about him, that the idea of disappearing forever and leaving everyone he loves with nothing fills him with a fucked-up sense of relief?
Will pictures his mom’s face when she hears he’s missing. And Jonathan’s. And… his friends. El. Mike.
Will Byers, missing. Again.
Dead. Again.
For good.

A sniffle. “I’m in Hawkins. Mom… Mom was in an accident. A car accident. She got… hurt. I’m looking after her.”
The bottom drops out of Mike’s stomach. “Shit, Will. Is she alright? Are you okay?”
“She will be. Your mom and Hopper are helping me out, so that’s… it’s fine. I’m fine.”
“Babe. I can tell you’re not fine.”
“I’m…” Will’s breath hitches again, and this time the sob does escape, sudden and loud in Mike’s ear. “I’m… she’s still in the hospital, and it’s… she looks so small, Mike.” Another sob, louder this time. “She’s my mom. She’s not supposed to look that small. She’s my mom.”
Mike closes his eyes and pictures Will as he looked the last time they saw each other, when Will was leaving for California. Hair messy from anxious hands, soft eyes brimming with tears, face red and splotchy from a combination of crying and the heat of late summer in Indiana. He’d never looked so beautiful to Mike.

Max scowled. “Take it back, Byers.”
“I refuse. Also, lying to someone isn’t a criminal offense, Michael.”
“Are you sure? Because Stevie threatens to throw me in jail every time we see each other.”
Will sighed. “Pretty sure that’s just because you piss him off.”

How many times had he been in this same exact position during sleepovers, on the bed until it got too cramped and awkward, then on the floor, staring up at those glowing stars and whispering secrets to Will in the dark?
Somehow that’s what makes it seem more real, the absence of those dumb pieces of plastic.
This isn’t Will’s room anymore, and it hasn’t been for a long time. It wasn’t his home.
In Will’s old bedroom, there were little pieces of Mike everywhere. His dirty clothes in the hamper, his English Lit notes on the desk, his likeness in drawings and doodles, his photographs tacked on the walls wherever there was even a bit of room.
Will had a home somewhere out there, and Mike didn’t know it. He wasn’t part of that anymore.

Summary
Will Byers has a big heart, his mom always said. He loves and he loves and he loves. He gives it away because it’s too much to be contained inside one small human organ, too full to bursting. It’s always been this way, his whole life, giving away love; to crying girls in sandboxes, to loud boys on swing sets, to uncaring fathers who yell and break things and force him to change, only to leave anyway. By the time he realizes the love isn’t infinite, it’s too late to fight his nature, and his heart bleeds out, year by year, until he’s drained and tired and empty.
He cries into his hand and wonders what will happen to him when he’s truly empty. Wonders if that day is rapidly approaching. Wonders if it’s already here.

basically the vibe is coming back to your hometown all grown up and dealing with the way it makes you feel small again - paired with the way life doesn’t always turn out the way we want, the way our choices shape our lives, and the fallout when choice is taken away from you completely.

Where it all starts is, they're in makeup.
Kirsten from makeup presses two fingers under Sebastian's chin to tilt his face up, pencils in his lips very carefully, and Mackie makes a soft, amused noise that has Seb sliding his gaze over to him while holding his mouth obediently open and still. Mackie's eyes are bright and interested, and he smirks a little, the grin Seb knows by now is the precursor to Mackie starting some shit.
“Oh, that's pretty,” he says, teasing, “your mouth, man, that’s something else.”
What does he mean by that, Seb wonders later, like, is he into it into it, or… It's just a joke, probably. No big deal.
