OR: Evan "Buck" Buckley isn't sure how he could have made things better between him and the rest of the 118 following the lawsuit. It’s quiet. Tommy doesn’t like it when it’s quiet.
Tommy was loud. Tommy was combative and hostile and defensive and aggressive. Tommy was destructive. He knows he’s a problem child, constantly getting into trouble and wrecking any semblance of a family he might have left. But he doesn’t stop- he prefers the disgusted looks and constant new faces to the heartbreak that comes with caring.
Tommy’s been bounced from home to home for most of his adolescence. This place is supposed to be a new start with people who care, but Tommy can’t bring himself to open up. He knows it’ll only end in pain and bitterness. He has his friends and support system, and he tells himself it’s all he needs.
“We’re here.” He was told. “Try not to fuck this one up.”

Okay, so maybe coming to the interview with a few broken ribs was a bad idea, but what choice did he have? Just not come and keep on being unemployed?
Several bad things could happen during his interview, given the circumstances. There was an AI in the building designed by Vulcan which not only kept unwanted people from getting in, it scanned people for any unauthorized weapons or injuries. There was also the problem with his illegal documents since he wasn't an actual adult. But the biggest risk is that the job is at a hero organization.
And he's a vigilante. Which are highly illegal.

Truthfully, Orpheus knew this was stupid, even for him.
But he really wanted some of those muffins that Siren had brought to their last meeting, and he couldn’t be bothered to change for one measly child.
I mean, the kid in front of him couldn’t have been more than seventeen.
So he watched, waiting for a reaction that never came, and Tommy tilted his head with furrowed brows.
“Are you going to order, or just stare at me until we close?”

Tommy is complacent in his life. He's got a job with people he trusts, a sort-of-brother, and enough money to manage on his own when they age out of the system. He's doing perfectly fine for himself, thank you very much, and he doesn't need the sort of family that this Phil guy keeps trying to offer him.
Or, Tommy heals a villain and has to deal with the consequences of his actions.

He shouldn't have worn that damn iconic blue overcoat that everyone in the royal family of the Antarctic Empire owns, much less have worn the garment in public. He’s an idiot for that - he can already imagine Wilbur slapping him upside the head for it.
Tommy swallows behind his blindfold. He can also imagine his big brother’s faces when they realize Tommy’s been kidnapped for who knows how long. Phil, his dad’s, face when he finds out his son has been taken from him.
But Tommy’s sixteen, now. He can take on a couple of damn pirates.
