    Summary

To Gale, flipping through his sketchbook is like strolling down a well-trodden path through the luscious woods of his mind, basking in the warm light of his favorite people, places and comforts. It's one of the reasons he keeps the book near his chest, literally and metaphorically close to his heart.

And thus, having Astarion peruse his art is terrifying, indeed.

“Gods, you draw everyone so happy." There is, for once, no bite in it. It's almost gentle.

“I…” Gale fidgets with the pencil still in his hand. “I draw what makes myself happy.”

Astarion runs his finger along the outer edge of the drawing of himself and Scratch strangely reverently.

“Sentimental,” Astarion chides, harmlessly. “How very you.”

In which Gale catalogues the entire journey since the crash of the Nautoloid in a sketchbook he hasn't drawn in since his exile and Astarion has enough confidence in his art for the both of them.

    Summary

Rolan thought things would be different once he reached Baldur's Gate.

Instead, he finds himself struggling to prove his worth as a wizard.

“I’m not pretending to know you, Rolan.” Gale lets out a shallow sigh, “But my eyes don’t deceive me. What I see is an apprentice wizard working as a shopkeeper, too untrained to cast even the simplest of spells!” Gale isn’t shouting, but his tone is stern, almost like he’s scolding a cat.

Rolan has held his composure through verbal assault, through beatings, but this?

    Pity?

Pity is the last thing Rolan wants.

    Summary

“I think that means you lost.”

“On a technicality, really.” Astarion attempts to refute, but finds he starts going adrift in the way Gale looks so satisfied with himself, having bested the proprietor of taste and confidence. “How far off is a peach from a plum?”

“Pretty far, I reckon. And a loss is a loss.” Gale says, and sets down his cup in between them. “But all is not dashed so quickly, Astarion! Take comfort in the fact that this means you are permitted a chance to earn a new honorific.” When Astarion looks up at him in confusion, he quickly adds, “I am sure you are aware of the adage that hot people always tip well, are you not?”

Ah, well…who is he to dispute that?

Something is sniffing him: cold, loud, ragged breaths dragging through his hair, his neck, his clothes.

“Please, whatever you are. Help me, I beg you.”

What could fix a broken, betrayed heart but a huge, bizzare creature?
