It's an all around good time, and the latest fishing-rod mayhem is just icing on the cake!Or it is, until... something, something goes horribly wrong with respawn.

Scott smiled again, this time with a hint of fondness—yes, Joel knew how to recognize that emotion on Scott’s face and he hated when it was directed at him. They were enemies, for goodness’ sake! Reluctant allies was probably more accurate—but they hated each other! Somewhat. They used to hate each other more. They got together as civilians a lot these days. It still counted.
Or, Joel and Scott are friends and that's the only reason they're alive by the end

There was something to their tone, a hint of bitterness, or a small suggestion, beckoning Joel to question that trust just a little bit. Whatever effect the Watcher desired wouldn’t do much though; because Joel already knew that Grian had a scummy past. And he still didn’t care.
He just muttered, “He means well,” looked back down at the bleeding woman as she let out a little wet gasp, and hoped that would kill the conversation.
It didn’t.
Or, Joel is invited to join the Hermits. He says no until he says yes.
