Summary
Renjun is staring down the bottom of his empty wine glass and considering retreating into the woods to live alone as a hermit for the rest of his life by the time someone slides into the seat across from him. He doesn't bother looking up; he knows who it is.
“You know how people used to think black cats were a sign of bad luck?” he asks.
“I don’t think that applies here,” Jaemin says, folding his hands to act like a chin rest as he blinks at Renjun from across the table. “Technically, I show up after all your bad dates. Also, I love cats.” As an afterthought he adds, “Meow.”
Renjun keeps going on terrible first dates, and keeps running into the same suspiciously handsome stranger after each one. It’s like something out of a romcom, except his life is not a romcom, so he can only assume the suspiciously handsome stranger is actually a suspiciously handsome stalker. Or maybe, just maybe—
It’s fate.

Summary
Jaemin sounds out of breath when he says, “You don’t have a gag reflex."
“I don’t," Renjun says. "Merry Christmas.”
Jaemin laughs, low and breathy. “I really hope you weren’t planning on giving that gift to anyone else this year.”
An hour ago, Renjun actually had no idea he was giving the gift of a blowjob to anyone. “This is awkward, I was actually going to give it to my other next-door neighbor, but you showed up first, so…”
Every other Friday, for as long as they’ve been neighbors, Jaemin has stopped by Renjun’s apartment with freshly-baked goods. Naturally, when Renjun finds out they’ll both be alone for the holidays, he finds a way to return the favor.

Summary
“Oh, I’m so sorry,” Renjun says. “I should've introduced you sooner. Jaemin, have you met my boyfriend?”
This is normally when most guys apologize and back off, but Jaemin just gives Chenle an obviously appraising once-over that leaves Chenle feeling equal parts flattered and objectified. “Oh,” he says. “Okay.”
“Okay?” Renjun asks, blinking.
“Your boyfriend is cute too,” Jaemin says, smiling at Chenle. “Are you guys looking for a third?”
Jaemin isn't the first guy to be interested in dating Renjun. He's just the first guy to be interested in joining the relationship. Their fake relationship.

Summary
Renjun waits until Chenle is taking a sip of his tea to tell him, “I’m sleeping with my husband."
Chenle doesn’t quite do a spit-take, but he does start sputtering. “That’s great,” he says, once he recovers. The look on his face says otherwise. “I’m happy for you."
It is kind of great, actually. Or it would be, if Renjun hadn't married Mark for the sole purpose of keeping his visa.
Or: Within the span of one year Mark and Renjun go from being strangers, to friends, to friends with benefits, to lovers. Throughout it all, they're husbands.

Summary
On Huang Renjun’s 25th birthday he wakes up in bed next to his ex-boyfriend’s best friend. This isn’t ideal for several reasons: one, he’s supposed to hate Jaemin. Two, he still kind of hasn’t gotten over Mark. It only gets worse when he shows up to his job interview hours later, and the interviewer is—you guessed it—Mark.
It’s a blessing that he still manages to get the job. It’s a curse that he somehow ends up back in Jaemin’s bed the very next day. There's no way this is going to end well, but people are always telling Renjun he needs to live in the moment more.
Now’s the moment, Renjun figures. And by god, he’s fucking living in it.

Summary
By the end of the day, Renjun must finish three impossible tasks. Convince the CRA to let him take over his parents’ laundromat. Finally host his father’s memorial. And get Mark Lee to break up with him.
Renjun has never been one for accomplishing the impossible, his life up until now boring and predestined. His parents left home for this quiet town in Canada when he was 7. He did two years at the community college to get a humble Associates Degree. He’s spent endless days watching dryers spin around and around. He’s never accomplished the impossible, and he hasn’t accomplished much else either.
He tells himself that this is the way it has to be. Some people just don’t get to have a story. Some people are meant to be stressed about money, and have the same conversations with their mom over and over, and spend their life thinking about what they could have done instead.
The most interesting thing that has ever happened to him is Mark, but that has to end now.
Until Mark is suddenly telling Renjun that he's from another universe, and to trust no one.
Renjun’s life here is supposed to be boring. That doesn’t mean it is boring everywhere else.

Summary
“That’s what this is about?” Mark sets Renjun’s phone down on the table. “You wrote a poem about…a guy that works with cats? At a café?”
“You make it sound stupider than it actually is,” Renjun groans, kicking him from under the table. In all fairness, it is stupid, very much so, but he can’t stand when his own stupidity is recognised by people that aren’t himself, Mark included. “Shut up and tell me if it’s good or not.”
(Or, Chenle works at a cat café part time, and Renjun is entirely normal about it.)

Summary
When Mark leans down to ask Renjun something at a party, a greedy hand on his waist and mouth sticky with Renjun’s saliva, Renjun is saying yes, even though he can’t hear Mark’s question over the music. After all, he’s expecting something along the lines of: “Do you want to get out of here?” or, “Can I take you home?” or, at the very worst, “You wanna show me what that mouth do?”
Not: “We’re having a rush thing next Friday if you want to come?”
Renjun is horrified by his new Friday night plans, but also soothed by the knowledge that he’ll get cut from the potential new members immediately. Except he gets asked to come to the next event. And the next one. And the next one… At what point does Renjun tell Mark he is only showing up because he wants to get in his pants?

Bookmarker's Notes
“Can I kiss you, baby?”
Baby. God, it should be cringe. Renjun should hate it. He should be looking forward to laughing about it with Donghyuck later. Instead, Renjun winds his fingers through Mark’s mess of hair, far too eager, and tugs him down to meet his mouth.

Summary
Heartbreaking: The Worst Person You Know Is Actually More Than Half Decent In Bed. Logistically, it’s a great mix. Donghyuck will begrudgingly admit that Jaemin is easy on the eyes—even if he’s got the personality of barbed wire.
It’s a match made in hell. It’s kind of perfect.
