Alex overhears his downstairs neighbor breaking up with his boyfriend, and decides to bake him some cookies. It leads to an offer for a fake date, a sexuality crisis, and an offer for a not so fake date.
“Hi, I’m your upstairs neighbor—not directly upstairs, like two floors upstairs—and I made these for you,” he says.
The most beautiful man in the world frowns a little, a tiny furrow forming between his brows.
“Ah, alright,” he replies after a moment, hesitant. “Thank you?”
And Alex can see him struggling to hold back the question, probably trying to be British and polite, but, well. It’s like two in the morning, way too late—or early—to be polite.

“I’m so sorry, I don’t recall that one” Henry lies, flashing an apologetic smile. “I don’t remember the details of most of those uni parties these days.”
(Twenty years ago, Henry met—and let go of—his soulmate. Now he's in his 40s, with a new job in a new city, and certainly not expecting said soulmate to come barreling into his life again. A small white lie seems like the simplest way to keep things from getting awkward, but real life has a way of getting complicated.)
