Summary
“Mr. Buckley, you are going to need a lot of help over the next few weeks. It is not recommended for you to live alone right now.”
Buck groans and as Maddie opens her mouth to say he can stay with her, Eddie beats her to it.
“You should stay with me.” They all turn to look at him, Christopher with a grin on his face. “Carla’s already there most days to help with Christopher and she can help you file the paperwork to get her as your aide too.” He shrugs and looks at the group. “It just makes sense.”
“Eddie, I can’t recover on your couch.”
“No, but you can recover in my bed and I can sleep on the couch or on the air mattress if needed.” Eddie seems insistent on Buck staying with him and Maddie knows that Eddie feels the same way for her brother as he feels for Eddie.
“Yay!” Christopher yells, hugging Buck.
“I guess it’s settled then,” Maddie says to the doctor. She wonders how long it’ll take for Buck and Eddie to figure themselves out, if Buck will ever wind up back at his loft.

Summary
Divergence from chapter 19 to chapter 27, where Chris doesn’t give it away. However, when Hen babysits, he is confused about why her and Karen share a room, since his daddy and papi don’t. Hen assumes Eddie is getting gay divorced and not out at work. So, she stays quiet, but tries to be supportive, which is a little difficult, since she isn’t sure if she is watching Eddie unknowingly lead Buck on, or Buck further destroy a marriage. The truth is somehow more unexpected than that and having to find out while Maddie is still missing is less than ideal.

Summary
“You love him, Eddie. You know you do. You should tell him. He loves you too. So much,” but Eddie shakes his head, tears falling freely.
“I can’t. I can’t,” he says silently.
“You can,” Elian demands. “Eddie, don’t you see? You’re wasting your life. You’re wasting time. You’ll die one day. You’re a firefighter now, right? You can go any day. He can go any day. Would you rather live your life wondering what might’ve been, or would you rather take the risk? Take the risk, Eddie. Take it,” he swallows. “It’s what I did.”
“But—but what if it ruins our friendship? Like—like us,” he stammers.
Elian looks so sad. “Just don’t make that mistake again,” he says quietly.
“I’m sorry,” Eddie says. “I’m so sorry.”

Summary
“I’m holding us to that,” Eddie says eventually, pulling off of his quiet street onto the crowded streets of LA. “We’re going on a date.”
Over the past few years, as Eddie’s grown as a streamer and branched out into more versatile content, he’s gained a knack for staying in a near-constant “streamer mode,” his kid likes to call it. Even now, away from any cameras or particularly malicious Twitch chatters, he slides on his sunglasses and messes with his hair and clothes, a trick he’s learned to hide from stream snipers. Although, he supposes, the goal of all of this is to be seen, so he’s not sure what the move is at this point.
“A date?” Buck echoes, and Eddie watches him tick up an eyebrow out of the corner of his eye.
Eddie signals right, and replies, “That’s usually what two people who are dating do together, yes.”
“Jesus Christ,” Buck huffs through a disbelieving laugh. Eddie glances over again and spots him typing away on his phone. “You are such an asshole.”
Or,
As per their agreement, Buck and Eddie go on a date.
