"Gross, dude," Robin muttered, but she was distracted by Nancy, who was evidently distracted by a woman who had just walked into the bar. Older, mid forties maybe. Short dark hair. Conservative kind of business-y outfit. Robin didn't recognize her. She was more concerned at the moment with the furrow in Nancy's brow, and the urge to press her thumb just there to smooth it out. Leave a thumbprint behind as evidence. Robin Buckley was here.

"Hey. Steve," Nancy said, eyes not leaving the woman at the bar. "How about you try... spreading the Gospel, I guess... to her?" She gestured at the woman. "She's one of Owens' people. Agent... Stinson I think. She's obviously off-duty, she might be open to it?"

A dame walks into a bar. Our heroes are gay about it.

She doesn’t quite know what to do with the way that Alice is looking at her. Like she’s something sacred, something inescapable, one of the old gods that slumber in the centre of the earth—Alice’s eyes are their own kind of hunger, the ache of an empty belly, the dark comfort of dreaming and the soft light of coming awake.

“Your life is your own, Narcissa,” she says.

And oh, how badly Narcissa wishes that were true.

    Summary

Marlene McKinnon was once told that ‘help will always be given at Hogwarts'. She had gone to her former headmaster, paranoia keeping an iron-clad grip on her as her hunt for a traitor progressed.

Two weeks later she was killed amongst her family. She died choking on a friend’s betrayal.

Dorcas Meadowes had the same words spoken to her a few years prior. Albus Dumbledore had looked her in the eyes and told her not to worry, that her friends would be given the help they needed.

She was killed fighting opposite those same friends, the ones who she had grown up with. She still lost them in the end.

Lily Evans heard that phrase as well. She’d held her child close to her chest and clung to her husband’s hand as she put all her trust in a man who promised they’d be safe.

She was killed protecting her child with her husband dead at the front door. She’d collapsed to her knees and screamed her lungs raw.

Mary Macdonald was told twice that ‘help would always be given at Hogwarts’. She was the only one to have lived.

    Summary

A long marauders’ era story following multiple povs through the years of Hogwarts up until the beginning of the second war. A story of friendship, love, loss, and coming back together which mostly follows canon. This story has a lot of love in it, but a lot of pain as well — don’t read expecting an easy happy ending, it’s compliant after all.

They were meant to hate each other, it's just how it works. The two houses have been rivals since the beginning of Hogwarts history so why should Marlene and Dorcas be any different?

Marlene is busy trying to not live up to her mother's expectations and Dorcas is just trying to get through her sixth year without being noticed. What could go wrong?
