Summary
Tim drops his head back against the cushion of the chair and closes his eyes, forcing himself to relive that night. Everything about it hurts; the bittersweet recollection of Lucy pulling him into her arms and assuring him everything would be okay, the echo of her pleading words as she begged him not to walk away, the emptiness in his chest as he did it anyway.
It feels like there’s a knife in his heart, tearing open the jagged wounds once more and ensuring they’ll never fully heal. He knows they won’t. There will never come a day that he doesn’t love Lucy with everything he has.
But he knows this is how it has to be. Even if she still, by some miracle, loved him through his disappearance and his lies, the moment the truth came to light she would have walked away. And that’s…
