Summary

The last person he expects to help him is his former police partner, someone they haven’t seen or heard from in six years. Clarke Griffin returns home, but nothing is as she left it.

“I am twenty-six years old, Uncle. I do not need a babysitter,” Zuko growled, noting that the growling was probably the first thing he needed to stop doing if he wanted to convince his uncle he could improve his public image by himself.
“A relationship and image manager, Zuko,” Iroh corrected. “And I’m afraid, nephew, this is non-negotiable. She will be arriving-”
“She?!”
The press seem to have it out for Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation, who often makes himself an easy target. His uncle hires a girl from the Southern Water Tribe to help him improve his public image and appease the palace council. Zuko does not plan on making it easy for her, but Katara is hardly one to back down from a challenge.

Her Gran-Gran told her the story, once: how soulmates are tethered (she likes that word, tethered – stronger than connected, softer than chained), how young some of them are when they hear the first evidence of that Tether. How soulmates hear each others’ thoughts sometimes, even before they know they’re soulmates, even before they meet. She loves the idea that a little part of her is in someone else’s mind even now.Katara and Zuko through the years, sharing thoughts and finding each other.

A Soul Mark could be left for any kind of love—familial, friendly, romantic, pure, fantastical. Each color represented a different bond between the people that touched skin-to-skin. The colors stayed the same until the death of that person. Then, the Soul Mark would turn grey.
Katara had never seen someone without Soul Marks.
But Zuko’s skin didn’t have colors—it only had scars.

She blinks, the familiarity of the name hums in her bones as she stares at him. But then, she snaps herself out of her stupor by mentally shaking her head, realising she's been standing there looking like an idiot that Zuko probably thinks she's being weird.
But, he doesn't seem to notice as he blinks at her too.
So, she takes the initiative to offer her hand towards him, letting a smile grace her face. "Nice to meet you."
