Shouto had known from the moment they had shown up at the party, Katsuki walking behind Eijirou and Izuku. His face had said it all, his body language. He'd seemed withdrawn and when Shouto had asked if he was okay he'd waved him off and said “Not now“ before he'd wandered off.
He had pulled himself together then, and Shouto's heart aches with the knowledge of that.
“I feel so stupid, Shou,” Katsuki says and he sounds－bitter. Pained. Defeated. Choked up.
He's going to cry, Shouto can tell.
“You expected him to say yes,” Shouto says.

“What the fuck did you just call me?” Keith asks angrily, rubbing at his own hand, his eyes wide with confusion.
“I didn’t say anything!” Lance defends, gaze flicking between Keith and the mage. He genuinely doesn’t know what the hell is going on.
The mage bows lightly, clasping their hands in front of their chest. “The ritual seems to have worked as expected. Worry not, Paladins, your new bond will vanish by itself once you’ve strengthened the preexisting bond between the two of you enough.”
Lance shivers. What? What fucking bond?
Keith seems equally as bewildered when he looks back at him.
or: Keith and Lance get magically bonded against their will. Whenever they touch, they can hear each other’s thoughts.

“Hey, lay off of him,” Lance says, “all the extra training is doing him well.”
Keith smiles and finds himself leaning slightly closer to Lance.
“Am I dreaming or something?” Hunk asks, “since when do you defend Keith?”
“Since I saw him beat the highest level of the training bots without breaking a sweat,” Lance says.
“Aw, you’re scared of him,” Pidge says, “that’s adorable.”
“I’m not scared of him!” Lance defends, “he just deserves some recognition sometimes.”
OR
Lance figures out that Keith doesn't exactly know what his own love language is, and he is more than willing to help him figure it out.

“So I have space flu?” Lance muttered.
“A Talerian space flu, I suppose,” Coran replied, chipper as ever.
“Wait,” Pidge took a few steps away from Lance, their arms held out in defense and eyes wide, “it’s not contagious is it?”
“Not to worry!” Coran quickly placated, arms folding behind his back. “It only spreads through very specific means. We don’t need to worry about quarantining or anything of the sort!”
“Oh thank god,” Lance sighed breathlessly, once again leaning heavily on Keith next to him.
Or: Lance contracts a virus from a recently allied planet and Keith struggles to keep his distance from him. He wants to care for his boyfriend, but their relationship is still a secret. Good thing it’s not contagious though, right?
… Right?
