When Aelwyn is trancing, Adaine usually is too. That means tonight, when a loud thump echoes dully across the room, Aelwyn is bolting awake within seconds. She peers over her top bunk to check in on Adaine and finds her no longer on her mattress but instead on the ground as if she had fallen out of her bed while asleep. She's awake now, eyes wide as they meet Aelwyn's, and then she's screaming something awful.

"Adaine," she says again, standing from the chair and taking a tentative step towards her sister, arms extended. "Are you… you're okay, I need you to breathe with me, can you do that?"
Adaine doesn't seem to register her words. Adaine doesn't seem to register anything happening at all, her gaze completely unfocused. It's frightening, because Aelwyn has never seen Adaine in a fit this badly before, because she always turns her sister away at the beginning of fits and never sticks around for the end of them, because her sister is stronger than Aelwyn has ever been and she hasn't had a panic attack since coming back from the forest in Aelwyn's presence which means Aelwyn can only draw from childhood memories and none of her childhood memories are good.

or: adaine's spent the past two weeks after the forest being strong for her sister. now it's aelwyn's turn to repay the favor.
