Phil’s thumb swept over Clint’s knuckles, back and forth in a rhythm that Clint wished he didn’t find so comforting. “I see.”
Clint snorted. “You really don’t. Honestly man, when I read the words scrawled on my back, I figured the next thing that happened after you said that to me was that I let the arrow fly.” He kept his hand on Phil’s, but he couldn’t stop himself from tensing, from waiting to feel Phil’s touch slide away as he realized how badly the soulmate lottery had screwed him over.
Phil looked at him for a moment, his voice quiet when he said, “That’s intense.” Then a small smirk twisted his lips. “And a little dramatic.”
