“What’s shakin’, Jason?” Mikey says, playfully tapping his knuckles against his shoulder, rocking him slightly on the spot.
Jason does not appear to be all that enthused. His face goes a bright beat red, hurtful, glossy eyes clear Mikey’s shoulder and stare daggers straight towards his mom.
“It’s Cowabunga Carl, sweetie,” she prompts, like somehow it wasn’t obvious who the big, giant bobble headed turtle was standing in their living room was. “For your birthday party?”
Mikey’s had plenty of kids kick up a real nasty fuss whenever he’d enter a room; he’d long since forgone taking it personally at all — if anything it was kinda nice to sit back and watch a family that wasn’t his tear itself apart with shouting and screaming matches and some tears. Along as he was getting paid for it, of course.
So he’s pretty alright at the idea of Jason not wanting him at his party mainly because if he’s shooed off home now, he could get another long hours sleep in to help ease off the ache in his neck from carrying around this stupid foam head on his shoulders.
But he really doesn’t know what to do when Jason suddenly just… bursts into tears.
