Summary
“Cardiology is… hearts. Heart surgeon, yes, alright, very impressive. Big day for you if I were your patient.” He mutters to himself, motioning to her, “I’m still confused as to who you are and why you’re here talking to me and still stood in my way.” He holds out a hand to his ship at her back.
“Well, I saw a man in a nice coat step out of a blue police box that appeared out of nowhere outside an associate’s house and instead of getting in my car and leaving I did the obvious thing of waiting around to see if that man came back for his box.” She shrugs, pocketing her hands in her jacket.
“This is a nice coat isn’t it…” he muses briefly before shaking himself back to reality and focusing in on her, “I’m sorry, you saw that and decided to stick around? You shouldn’t have even been able to see that through the perception filter.”
“Perception filter.” She repeats absently, nodding, “I think it’s broken. I perceived the shit out of it.” She points out with a laugh.
“Oi! It is not broken, maybe you’re broken!” he shakes his head, “No, sorry, that’s rude. But hold on…”

Summary
All that time she’d thought it inevitable that he outlive her came crashing down around her somewhere out in the vast, unending universe, so far from anything familiar, surrounded by chaos and noise and the echoes of not-so-distant violence.
So many stories about the oncoming storm, the man who survived the Time War, the last Time Lord. They’d built him up in her mind beyond the reaches of possibility, it strung together with the confidence and admiration she already felt for him and created the image of the perfect person. The safest person for her to love in the entire universe. Always okay, always the Doctor. She hit buttons on the console with desperation and reckless abandon, and after a long time of terrified, frantic actions, the time machine simply let out a very dismissive thrum. Every single dial she’d adjusted, and every lever she’d pulled all returned to the way they were before. As if the ship took one disappointed look at Lana and her unbearably human reaction to crisis and simply rolled her eyes and waved her off. Like an adult at a dinner party approached by a child.
As if to say: That’s great honey, now go play over there.Series

Summary
She takes another sip of her coffee, walks her fingers along the edge of the console, tilting her head back to watch the pillars rotating above her head at the top of the column making up the center of the console. That circular, familiar language of his etched into every panel of it. She never really stops wishing he’d teach her just some of his language. Just enough to get by. Enough to understand him just that much clearer. There will always be a part of him out of her reach, she’s accepted that, she’d just like to bring more of him closer. Prove to him that it’s safe to lay his secrets and his past in her hands.
She’d hold it close just as she does with him in bed each night. Loved, held, and known.
“Got an upgrade with him too, I see."
Staircases and bookshelves, all of it lit differently. No longer that warm glow, coinciding with browns and yellows and softer tones to match. Everything has pivoted to the polar opposite. A cool toned hue washing over everything, complimented by white and grey and black. Spots of purple or red caught here and there amid it all.
“Got me feeling outdated,” she laughs out softly under her breath, “The two of you…”Series

Summary
Once he’s worn himself out, once the fire in his chest burned itself to nothing and his hands were tired, and his chest ached from more than just the constant, endless desperation, he let himself fold inward. Sharp edges and explosive demonstration of millennia of frustration centered in a short burst, a brief moment where that severe composure slipped, all of it crumbled into something vaguely shaped like the Doctor.
Curled in on himself, one hand bruised and bloody pressed to the floor to make a half-hearted attempt at balancing himself on the way to the floor. With his other hand still gripping the edge of the console, his arm taut with the remainder of all of that anger and pain, he rests his head on his forearm and shuts his eyes tightly. He imagines if it were possible to collapse inward as he’s seen stars and planets, galaxies and entire solar systems do so often, he’d have done it just then.

Summary
Gently, and with a soft sigh, he threads their fingers together, their hands resting together firmly, held in his lap. He tilts his head to rest atop hers.
“You’re alright,” he says softly. His voice is so quiet she almost considers she imagined him speaking. But that low resonate of his familiar tone and that sharp accent is undeniable. It’s the sound of comfort and safety and, above all, it’s the sound of home.
She releases an unsteady breath and leans further into him. The two of them sat, quiet and still, at the edge of the bed. It feels as though the entire universe freezes around them. All that’s left in existence is this moment. Right here. His hand in hers.

Summary
“We’re friends,” she says instead. “We can laugh about this, I mean, it wasn’t even me, so you don’t need to be embarrassed.”
“Right,” the Doctor says. “Glad to see we’re on the same page.”
He flexes his fingers absentmindedly, and her eyes are pulled to the movement of the tendons across the back of his hand. The greedy thing in her chest snarls.
“I mean, it’s not like you’re pining away for — ”
“Clara,” the Doctor says softly. “You’re being unkind.”
(Or: at an invention fair in the future, the Doctor and Clara get trapped in a room with a device that forces the Doctor to answer any question Clara asks. She pulls on one too many threads.)
