Summary
“So let me get this straight,” Merlin says. “I’m your mate.”
“Yes. Well—” Pendragon folds his glasses and places them innocuously in the corner where they will be undoubtably forgotten if Merlin does not pick them up later. “Destined mate, I guess?”
“Like a soulmate? When did you know that?” Merlin chin dips and his eyebrows shoot up. It makes sense, weirdly enough. Whenever Pendragon was concerned, his magic would occasionally do odd—well, odder—things. He chalked it up as raging hormones.
“Since we met.” Pendragon's mouth is set in a grim line. “It’s how you smell.”

Summary
“I don’t have a chance,” Merlin said. “None at all.”
“That’s not entirely true,” Leon said slowly. “He seems quite fond of you, from what I’ve seen. Maybe he needs a little push.”
Gwaine let out a peal of laughter. “Little? Merlin needs the force of the ten dragons to get Arthur’s defences down.”
“But it’s not impossible, is it?” Elyan said, catching on to the direction of the conversation that Merlin hoped to the gods it wasn’t going towards.
“No,” Gwaine said, looking amongst the knights, who all returned his grin. “I don’t think it is.”

Summary
Suddenly, the water god's body suffused with liquid sparks and his tendrils shivered in pleasure; this blood tasted like perfumed wine, like apples at the height of harvest. His tendrils wound like vines around the man’s unconscious body—legs, chest, hands, neck—constantly weaving and turning. The human’s head drooped like a wilted flower as he was hung in the air.
“Why do you taste so sweet?”

Summary
That dream could become his future, Arthur realised. One day, he’d die in battle. Another indecisive young king, forgotten. His feelings, unspoken.
And Merlin, alone. He’d hate that the most.

Summary
Merlin sighed loudly—enough to silence the crowd—and stood up. “Guards, seize Arthur Pendragon.”
“Is that necessary?” Balinor inquired dryly.
Merlin ignored him. He tossed up a druidic rune stone he'd made for this particular arsehole.
As said numpty sprinted past the stage, the stone exploded and shrouded him in purple smoke.
Arthur disappeared. What remained was a bear blinking at his own nose.
